San Juanico or San Basilio?
The beautiful bay with the rock towers in it north of Loreto is called Bahia San Basilio by some and Ensenada San Juanico by others. Which is the
correct name?

I believe that San Juanico is the bay, San Basilio the point on the south end.

I think you're referring to San Juanico cove. It's just south of Bahia San Basilio. Punta San Basilio is the northern point, Punta
Mercenarios to the south.

Names on a map (which map?) are not always correct... the locals also might have their own name for the places.
The Baja Almanac which is made from Mexican government topos has the following features listed (north to south), listed exactly this way:
Bahia San Juanico (Bahia San Basilio)
Boca San Juanico
Ensenada Puerto Almeja
Punta San Basilio
Ensenada San Basilio
Punta Mercenarios

Hmmm.... as I remember it San Juanico is the fish camp area to the north from the road in, and San Basilio is th bay to the south, a different fork
coming in. I could be wrong, and maybe don Alley will chime in to set me right
Whatever the case, it is a hauntingly beautifull area, and I hope we go back soon with our kayaks!

Well, I have two charts. One shows Bahia San Juanico north of Punta San Basilio, the other the way you describe it. In my experience in those waters,
most available charts are "approximate".
I will say that Arroyo San Juanico appears to be north of Punta San Basilio.

According to the Jack Williams Baja Boater's Guide, San Juanico Cove, or Caleta San Juanico is the picturesque cove with the pinnacle islets north of
Loreto. The northern point of this cove is, according to Williams, Punta San Basilo. Just north of that is "Ensenada Puerto Almejas," then the fish
camp and then Bahia San Basilo.

The owner of the property at San Basilio is discourging people from camping on his land. He has bladed a new road in that starts south of the San
Juanico road, and has plans for big developments (marina, hotel, ect...)

I was there until 1pm on Tuesday, 10/16. No new road has been "bladed" since the most recent chubasco. In fact, the road from the San Juanico/San
Basilio junction to San Basilio is in moderately bad shape. There are new signs on the fence about 100 feet uphill from the high tide mark on the
northernmost beach asking that no one drive on the beach. Two parties were happily camped at each end with no reports of anyone asking them to leave
or interfering with their activities--just keep the vehicles off the beach. The compound at the northern end looked unoccupied. Does anyone know who
owns it? JK

The property is owned by Victor Castorena, the large multi story complex is owned by someone from Spain, and the little home on the cliff over the
water to the north of that is owned by the couple who have the art gallery in the middle of town.
The new road got rebladed last Jan from the "Y" after coming over the dugway all the way out to Mex 1, I hope it washed out, it was kind of contrived,
the San Juanico wash road is a better route.
Im glad you didnt meet Victor during your stay.
