Driving to Cabo during Score 1000 races
WE plan on being on the road during the races. We "were" planning on xsing the border at San Ysidro on the 12th. Now reading that Score has set the
dates without consulting us, I'm wondering if this isn't a bad time to cross. We have to be in Cabo on the 19th for two weeks. Since we are retired
we have options here of course. Any experienced travelers have any suggestions other than "take a plane"??? WE plan on being in Loreto for several
days (we have a place to stay there) wanted to arrive there around the14th. Oppppsssss!!!! Noticed I tagged this on the Photo Gallery. Sorry???????

I would go. With all the racers and crews on the road, it's peace of mind knowing that should you have vehicle problems, there WILL be someone who
will stop to give you a hand. For the most part they are very helpful, and are virtually traveling garages with experience, tools and the skills to
give a hand and get you going again, sat phones for big emergencies, etc.
Loreto should be hopping come the 14th as that is the second day of the race. You should have some good spectating around the area.
Most race related people should be out of Cabo by the 19th.
Go and have a good time with it!

What she said. Just be aware that there may be feverish chase crews trying to get places on the road.

As mentioned, there are over 400 racers and the support crews will be heading south on Mex 1 beginning on the morning of the 13th and will continue
for the 53 hour time limit to get to Cabo. Be aware that the race course will cross and be on Mex 1 in several areas. Even though they are required
to not exceed 60 mph while on Mex 1, racers will probably not be very patient in following slower traffic...just be advised.
We checked out places to watch the race south of La Paz the other day...there will be a crossing just a few miles north of Todos Santos on Hwy 19, it
should be a good spot. Also the Hwy 19 is under some major construction 4 or 5 miles north of Cabo which will make for slow going for all the chase
teams, spectators, and locals trying to get to the finish line at the soccer field in Cabo. Should be an exciting and true Baja adventure.

I guess we could cross on the 11th rather than the 12th, just to get an extra day ahead of them. We cover a lot of miles during the daylight hours
when we are on the road. My concern is tons of auto's also going south that are spectators. Not too worried about the crews & drivers. But it
is the spectators that I am worried about. Was hoping that someone would jump in who has done this a ton of times and can relate first hand what
traffic is going to be like going south.

Done this many times. I wouldn't worry too much about "tons" of cars going south to spectate. Most spectators are fairly local to their area. Traffic
will be a little heavier than normal but not too bad. The concern, is increased attention required due to the possibility of chase trucks w/without
trailers, trying to get between spots FAST. Stay out of their way, if possible, everyone will benefit.
Other than that, stop worrying about it and go.

Wondering what the motel situation is going to be like race week going south. Never had a problem finding a room anywhere when we travel in Baja.
But never tried it Race Week before either. Guess just have to "go with the flow"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It all depends on where - any town that is close to the racecourse will be a problem. The farther, the less problems. Last year, I was able to get two
rooms in GN two days before race day. They were going to be full the next night. One day before, two rooms at the Serenidad was no problem, and on
race day, I was able to get two rooms in Loreto. Be prepared to be flexible, and you'll be fine.
And, yes, go with the flow it is.
