Vehicle Insurance

Hi
I just got off the phone with Vagabundos Del Mar...They
pretty much have me totally confused.
Is there another way to get Mexican insurance for our
motorhome when we cross at Tecate ???
Also can we get fishing liscences there too ???
And can we pay for just the 22 days we'll be in Baja and
not a full year???
Any help is good help
Thank you
Tim

I don't remember who I bought from in recent years, but any insurance company will sell Mexico insurance by the day.

There is an ad at the top of the page for Baja Bound and if you search on Google for "auto insurance baja" you will see a range of choices. Most of these agents all represent the same handful of Mexican insurance companies. You can do it all online and print it out. No reason to stop at the border.

You would do well to contact Lewis and Lewis, underwriters for Qualitas Insurance Company here in Mexico.

Whole lot better rates, and you can get your boat permits and fishing licenses here in Mexico just as easily as with Vagabundos.

Timo,

The deal is daily rates are higher than an annual policy if you are in Mexico for more than 2-4 weeks a year. So, you may find that buying 22 days of insurance is pretty close to 365 days of insurance... The benefit to this is no rush to get back over the border if you wanted to stay more than 22 days OR if your vehicle broke down on the day you were to cross back, etc.

Many here have used Lewis & Lewis with satisfaction... many here are members of the Discover Baja Travel Club and get their insurance through them www.discoverbaja.com (Mexico business discounts, newsletters, events, books & maps, and insurance).

BajaBound.com supports THIS forum, and that is a great reason to support them... They have competitive DAILY insurance that you can buy ONLINE for the days you will be in Mexico (and maybe a few extras in case of the above mentioned possibilities!)... you can get a refund on unused days!

Just for you information, Costco now sells Mexican Insurance and membership give a 25 to 35 % discount...
A 1 year full coverage policy for my Subaru would have been $340, with my gold membership they took 25% or $85 off, final cost was $255....
