Dirt Road and Open Gate

How can you resist checking it out when you come across something like this in Baja? We didn't take it, but maybe next time - it was getting late. This gate and road begin behind Rancho Santa Inez. I think this is the road to what David K calls "the Widwmaker". David?

Hi Bob,

It looks like the start of the road to Mision Santa Maria (14 1/2 miles and 3 hours away)...

The 'widowmaker' is the one very steep, rocky grade just over a mile from the mission that tossed both BajaMur and I from our rides when I first went in in 1999... Having shed blood on those rocks, and we were both married men back then, the name 'widowmaker' seemed appropriate!

Here's the squarecircle coming down the 'widowmaker' last May (see all the photos at http://vivabaja.com/msm ):

Here's one I took on the 'Cortez side... This weekend, I'm having it blown up and placing it on my wall. You can save the image as wallpaper for your computer for free, though...

I'm going to the photo shop this weekend to blow mine up. Let me know if you'd like a copy and I can expand and frame and ship it to you if you are in the U.S. But first, I'm going to make a professional copy to see how it looks.

Nice shot Ken--I like the way your eye drifts onto the other islands after seeing the big impact of the first.

Muchas Gracias. Plus, the reflection of the 1st island makes such an impact visually. Baja is such an inspiring place...
