Current turn-around time for US passport renewal?

Has anyone renewed their US passport (by mail) in the last few months?

What is the current turn-around time to get the new one?
I can't tell how current the govt website is which gives "4-6 weeks" as the average.

Someone recently (last day or two) stated that they just got theirs back after only 12 days. It did not mention if they paid for the expedited service.

It only took 3 weeks for new passports for our kids without paying for the expedited service. They were told when they applied it would take 6 weeks but it didn't.

I concur with greybaby. I recently applied for my passport through the local library and was quoted 6- 9 weeks for delivery. WIthout paying the expedited fee I received it in 3 weeks.

I applied for mine (1st time) on Nov 2, 2007 and got it in twelve days. I did not pay for the expedite service. The postal employee quoted 4-6 weeks. Guess I was just lucky.

OK here is the time it took my daughters passport to arrive;D

She applied at the Upland CA Post Office Monday November 26th
She paid the EXTRA money ($60) to "expidite it":o

It arrived December 3rd in the mail

That's 7 DAYS!!!
not bad:biggrin:

The birth certificate comes in a separate envelope later
about 10 days...but
with a passport you don't need it right away:saint:
