Loreto ATM withdrawal: Update, attempt failed

Rumor: someone made an unauthorized withdrawal at Bancomer's ATM next to Pescador. Instead of an ATM card, they used a welding torch and withdrew the whole machine.

Another rumor: The new Banamex will open within a week. And another Bancomer branch soon after. Good, we need more ATMs.

Edit: Update: The heist was a failure, police foiled the attempt while in progress. The perp escaped, for now. No money was taken but the ATM isdown for the count; the boot is closed. Or so I hear. This is Loreto so who knows what really happened.

Reminds me of the time they tried to take a safe, big old fashioned one, out of an Albertson's store next to me. Had a come-along attached to the bed of a pick up. Safe sat right in front of a plateglass window. They busted the window and winched the safe onto the backed up truck, but it was so heavy , that the trucks front wheels went up in the air and they had to flee and leave the truck. Needless to say, they got captured the next day. Had a good chuckle out of that one.:biggrin:

A few years ago, the only (at that time) ATM in Todos Santos was removed from the BaNorte booth on Halloween night.
Imagine someone having it sitten somewhere in the house. "handy little machine you have there." Or maybe it's painted over and turned into a coffee dispenser.

The grass is always greener....
and so, there is always a better spot in Baja

BTW...

Is the new bank (Banamex..?) open in Loreto yet? Saw it in progress, and coming right along, a couple of weeks back.

I heard recently that it will open Saturday. And a new Bancomer branch soon too.
