What If God Was One Of Us
.........Joan Osborne song, lyrics by Eric Bazilian

If God had a name what would it be?
And would you call it to his face?
If you were faced with him
In all his glory
What would you ask if you had just one question?

*And yeah, yeah, God is great
Yeah, yeah, God is good
Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

If God had a face what would it look like?
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that
you would have to believe
in things like heaven and in Jesus and the saints
and all the prophets (*)

Trying to make his way home
Like a holy rolling stone
Back up to heaven all alone
Just trying to make his way home
Nobody calling on the phone
'cept for the Pope maybe in Rome.

Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.

That can't be Thoreau. Look at that beard! It's obviously a fake.

45? Seems awfully young, Roger.

To be honest I didn't like being forced to read Walden in the 11th grade. I was too undeveloped at that age. And I found his style tedious to read. I do like his ideas, though. What outdoorsman doesn't? Fortunately, it will be Alex's turn to read Thoreau soon and I'll have another go at it. I'm sure it will be better next time around and who knows, maybe I'll make it more interesting for him.

The Eric Sevareid book is still on my list of reads. Haven't done that either.

Hope you had a good summer, Roger, and caught a lot of 'jacks'. As I said, we float tubed BC this year.

P.S. I like the first portrait a lot more.

Igor,
You have the best photos. I hope you are putting them into a collection for Alex for when he's grown.

I second Paulina's comment about Igor's photos. Absolutely great.

Does anyone know where this one is:

Piece of Cake

It's overlooking Lisbon Harbor, Portugal.

Can't you find something more challenging?

Just kidding. I had to go through 28 google image pages before finding it.

I can't believe how many Christ statues there are on our planet. But the one at San Paolo is the best. It seems to be the inspiration for all the others. Often imitated but never equalled.

Thanks Paulina.

Thanks also for giving me the opportunity of showing you my personal favorite from BC last summer. Sorry - no people this time. A morning shot at Hihium Lake.

You've got it reversed, Corky.

It wasn't the highjacking that killed this thread. The highjacking made this thread.

You would never had 1300 views on just that subject. In fact, the thread had been dormant for a couple of days prior to being 'hijacked'. As it remains now due to lack of interest on the initial subject matter.

Ya know, it was the intent of the two photos to spawn more of the same. Quite frankly I was a bit surprised at the lack of interest in the subject matter. I guess hijacking is just great subject material like noted. Go figure.:?:
