FM3 Questions
Finally, I think I'm ready to apply for my FM3 in LaPaz!
I have my:
fidi,
police clearance letter,
bank statements,
and cash
Does anyone have a sample letter (en espanol) requesting the FM3 that will share?
Where can I get my photos taken?
Where is the Immigration Office in LaPaz?
What else do I need?

I assume that this is a good time of year for you to apply...
People dont think about the fact that they have to be here the same time every year to reapply. So if you are normally here in Dec, great but if you
are normally here in Feb, wait till then to apply.

Some years back, when immigration was at it's nasty best, they would disassemble your passport to make copies of all pages, blank or otherwise,
then hand it back to you as a pile of rubble.
Thank God, that part has changed.

You need a letter size file folder, photos, three SHCP5 forms,and the form called a "solicitud". All the specifics are available on-line at
inami.gob.mx
Having done all of the immigration paperwork myself for years, it took a long time before I was able to complete the packet on the first try, they
always found something I had to make another trip for. I also agonized over the letter each year. Last year I got a lawyer just to write it. Really
classy!
Now I am using a "gestor" for the final immigration declaration and have to consider seeking dual citizenship. Time flies when you are having fun!

La Paz Immigraccion office is on Alvaro Obregon aka Malecon next to el Taste restaurant close to calle Manuel Pineda
You also need
a cobrabante=recent water or electricity bill and a copy, doesn't need to be yours.
passport and copies of the main pages
three previous bank statements
fidi and copies
letter stating your address in spanish
letter requesting FM-3 in spanish
letter of support from la ocal in spanish (optional)
4 photos-go to photos miguel or dorians on both on calle 16 septiembre
hmm what else... flowers
In my last visit they didn't need any formata SAT 5 they provide a single form to you which you use to pay at the bank.

I checked the inami website and it is not helpful at this time. In the meantime I wondered if you are in La Paz or can go to the office in Cabo.

Keep in mind that a lot of government offices are closed between Xmas and New Years

A few years ago, when I got my FM3 in Loreto, I applied in May. It expires in March every year.
The anniversary date was not based on my FM3 application date, but was based on a date (date of issue?) from the FM-T that I turned in with the
application.

Thank you for all the input. I have tried to summarize requirements for the request of the initial FM3. If I have missed something, please let me
know. Hopefully this will help others.
LaPaz Immigration Office location is 2140 Alvaro Obregon (Malecon) between Allende and Juarez
Docs needed:
* letter size file folder
* passport and copy of all pages, including blank ones
* current migratory document (FMT)
* fidi (if you have one)
* at least three months of bank statements
* proof of address in Mexico (e.g., water bill)
* B&W photos (4x4 cms, 3 front and 3 profile) from Miguel or Dorian's on calle 16 septiembre.
* letter stating your address in spanish
* letter of support from local in spanish (optional)
* letter requesting FM-3 in spanish

I am through with doing my own FM3,now that I found my wonderful agent in La Paz who does everything for me...It actually SAVES me $ cause I don't
have to be there to renew it...he can just do it for you...makes it soooo easy and foolproof...for some reason they don't jack him around like they
sometimes do with us. I highly recommend using an agent...although before I would NEVER have used one...I am the kind of girl who likes to do things
myself and thought I couldn't afford it..but now, I have changed my tune and cant' afford NOT to use him.. andhe speaks very good english...all our
amigos use him for their fm3 and fidecomisos too his email is alonsobaja@prodigy.net.mx

I would make more than one copy of everything
As Michael Mercer once said..."how many copies do you need at the immigration office.............one more than you have!"
If you have any extra they may come in handy for something else.

I guess this is another example of things being different in different locations.
Since you are in Loreto and I am in the Los Cabos area, neither may be what it is in La Paz

do think about the timing thing.
I thought I was clever doing mine in January, so I would always be around for renewal in the middle of the season. well, that was a good thought,
except...my renewal date is January 11th.
migracion suggests applying one month before for renewal...
guess how much gets done during the preChriistmas/Christmas/postChristmas/ThreeKingsDay season????
last 'renewal' took sixteen weeks. (to be fair, that was during the infamous power struggle in migracion where they had to send things to Cabo from
Loreto). still, am not holding my breath for a speedy renewal.
could have been avoided, maybe, if I'd applied in late January or early Feb. maybe.
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

ps to my last post...one benefit of Dec application is that fees go up in January every year, so I do pay slightly less than I would if I applied for
renewal in Jan or Feb...
reality\'s never been of much use out here...
