About vehicle theft danger

Because private diesel pickups don't seem to exist in Baja, is there any less threat to my '01 Dodge diesel than to a comparable gas truck for instance? Seems like the diesel would be harder to sell. Just my imagination?

That's because they can't be imported.

I havn't heard that, Judy but, I don't hear everything. I know there are lots of Micro-busses with diesel engines but, they change the engine after registration.
I'll look into it, thanks.

I had a guy on one of the mainland boards tell me that he imported his diesel truck through an importer at Nogales. Said it cost about 1000 dolares. This was about a year ago.

During the rash of Ford truck thefts in SD a year or two back, the police were saying that many were already across the border. So, I imagine they are chopped pretty quickly. Little consolation that someone down there might not be driving it.

I thought they were stolen by narco cartels to smuggle drugs and people...if they get caught they don't lose as much...they get pinheads to drive...with swapped out license plate to get past BP.

I have seen several locals driving diesel pickups lately. The trucks have Mexican plates. Wonder if there has been a change in the law?

We have a bunch of diesel vehicles with Mexican plates in the Santa Rosalia area now and I was told that they had no trouble getting plates as long as they were imported. So either the law has changed or someone up North did not know that they were diesel. Either way they are here.

I donīt think there has ever been any trouble getting plates.... you just remove them off another vehicle.:lol::lol:

There was a newer Ford diesel pickup stolen in Conception Bay some time back, and folks around the area said this was an unusual occurence for Baja Sur. Mi amigo, Manuel, said that..The thief was a foreigner, because a Mulegino driving a diesel stood out like a ruby in a goat's arse.
