Colima en Loreto

A small restaurant on calle Juarez near the fruteria, Colima has 3 daily specials in addition to the regular menu.

Last week I tried the chicken mole. A large whole leg was smothered in rich black homemade mole, served with seasoned rice, hot fresh tortillas, and perfectly cooked black beans seasoned with epazote. Out of this world, and only 50 pesos!! The sopes are really good as well, choice of chicken or pork.

Full bar, nice people, don't know the hours, but I'll try to post them tomorrow.

Paula
Keep those Loreto restaurant reviews coming. This time next week we will be there!

How is the road out to Picazon, Imelda and Alejandro's restaurant?

Hours on the door for Colima are 1pm to 10pm tues- sat.

Picazon is closed until Jan 22 for Imelda to have surgery. The road is probably fine, but why go?:(

Tacos El Sinaloense, parked on the west end of Juarez, is my new favorite for tacos. Mid-morning to mid-afternoon. Other than these and Los Mandiles, restaurants here are the same as always.

Happy eating, Judy and Jim! wish I could join you.

I went to Colima for lunch the other day, the service was very slow and the food was served cold. Maybe I caught them on bad day.

My favorite spot for fish tacos in Loreto is Cesars, excellent food and they have done a nice remodel on the place.

It is hard to get me away from El Rey. That is the only place that I have ever eaten tacos de cabeza and I have one everytime we go. One is more than enough.
Hope to eat at Domingos too.
any more suggestions?
I have never tried Cesar's...will this trip!

Dan, I got my mole to go aroud 5 or 6 in the afternoon, took about 5 or 6 minutes to prepare, it was hot and delicious even after walking home with it, and the price was surely right. But aren't all Loreto restaurants notoriously inconsistent?

my two experiences there were both negative. tardy service despite being the only people in the place, cold food, lunch 'specials' not ready 'yet' at 1:30, and most of the listed items unavailable or 'out.' glad Paula had a good experience but I won't try them again.

reality\'s never been of much use out here...

Would be nice if those establishments could read the gringo comments. Probably wouldn't help much though. Been to lots of places where the help was more interested in watching soaps on the 17inch TV then paying attention to their customers, especially the small ones. Really no wonder that those places come and go.
And as far as fare goes, Loreto's restaurants have mediocre fare in the best of times, even if they pay attention to you.
And speedy service is a North American concept.
You'll have trouble finding it anywhere else in the world, including western Europe.
