Some really Baja-ready trail rigs!
Walking the streets of Barranquilla and Santa Marta, Colombia with my gf Onelis, I stopped to take some pictures of some astounding 4WD vehicles. 4WD
vehicles that would look right at home on the trails and byways in Baja. 4WD vehicles that would *RULE* the trails and byways in Baja.
To get you to the backcountry from the U.S.A. we have a late-model Hi-Lux with the "Hi-Rider" package. This rig rolls on 33" tires, and with a
factory lift kit, this pickup looks ready. Just remove the siderails, add some mud-terrain tires, and go

If you need a serious, no-nonsense pickup truck, with a factory snorkle kit, factory straight axle, one that can rule the campgrounds, here ya go.

But, if you got into an accident, who to better haul your injured self to the hospital than this Toyota Land Cruiser Ambulance.
Got Groceries? How about a long-wheelbase Land Cruiser? Or Two, Or Three?
But, what about when you need a small utility-ute to get you further into the backcountry? How about this South American Suzuki Samurai?
But when things really get dicey back in the barrio, you'd better bring your Jeep to the rescue.
Here's a daily-driven Willy's Flat Fender that is still being driven after 60 or so years of service!!!

Nice shots--I'd read in another thread that the Toy Hi-lux was still being made but not sold in the US...wonder if they still make them with those
ever-sure L22 engines.

Seems to be just using the old Toyota truck name, Hi Lux... what we call a Tacoma. Looks the same except for the rear window... and the front
grille... ?

They looked exactly like the Tacoma, but with a lifted suspension and a killer-looking hood
scoop. This was luxury for the Colombians I saw tooling around in them...

One of the knocks Consumers Reports had on the new Tacoma was it's beds weight capacity of only 1500lbs due mainly because it's plastic not metal. I
was surprised when I took the bed mat from my 93 Toyota and put it in my 07 Tacoma and had to cut 4-5 inches off the sides to get it to fit.

It's my company work truck. Got it in Dec. 06. Just like David K's. I had an add a leaf in the rear just after I got it to fix the soft rear on it.
Next week or so I'm getting a spacer kit added to the front springs to level the truck.
Last week I had my GMC truck lifted 2 inches with new torsion bar keys and upper A arms, and heavy duty idler arm etc. for the front and replaced the
rear add a leaf with a longer and thicker one. Looks really good and drives better I think. Precision Off-Road of Bakersfield did the work. They put
new Rancho shocks on the front with a longer mount length. They cut the bottom mount off the shock and weld a new longer mount on it. I'll keep that
in mind when I replace the shocks.
Last year at the Baja 500 race I developed a rattle in the truck and haven't been able to find it, well I think they found it. When they were
replacing the torsion bar keys you have to disconnect the cross member and pull it back away from the bars. The cross member is bolted to a shock
mount bracket on each side. The bracket on the passenger side was broke where it was attached to the frame. It's was hard to see because it is tucked
into the frame rail almost out of sight.
