Mexican car registration
How do I register my 2001 Dodge Ram truck in Mexico? I keep the truck at my house in La Ribera and want to get Mexican plates and registration.

The cost is at least a thousand dollars, You could register it in the states for many, many years for that. I keep mine registered in South
Dakota .... do everything by mail.... no special requirements except you need a US mailing address (any state)..... and at thirty nine dollars a year
a great deal.
there is no smog requirement (although I did pass the test last June in CA) and no American insurance requirements.

If anybody seeks a cheap drivers license policy for $99 ANUALLY go to Q ualitis.com.mx this outfit insures you drivers license for liability for $99
on any vehicle you drive in Mexico for liability only good for old rigs plus you can change rigs without altering policy since it is broad form named
operator.

I'm pretty sure you need to have an FM3 visa to drive/have any Mexican plated vehicles as well.

The requirements of the state of South Dakota are that you have a US mailing address it does not have to be in South Dakota, furthermore you do
not need to hold a SD drivers liscence, in that field in the application it asks for either a SD drivers lisc. or a social security number.
The application is to the county treasurer of any county, they process the app and send you your plates and tags, usually within ten days ....
then they send the app along with your Title to the state office where they will issue your new SD Title in about three weeks.
Renewal is by mail at present. There are no smog or insurance requirements.
If you want I can send you the number of the officer who process my title transfer. I explained that the car was going to live in BCS and I was
having trouble with CA DMV .
You know, it was really a pleasure dealing with a county officer who actually answers the phone, and was pleasant and helpful in this process.
A far cry from the CA DMV .

You definitely don't need a FM 3 to drive/have a Mexican plated vehicle.
