1. sign up for Vonage using US billing address
2. Select area code you will call, or be called from, most often
3. Buy Vonage modem in US (Radio Shack has $50 off coupon)
4. Connect to computer in Mexico that has Infintium modem or buy one from TELNOR
Works great down here and never any trouble.:bounce:

Vonage was offering on their web site when you sign up the equipment you need for free other than modem, must have shipped to US address, I have had Vonage for two years and it works great, if you have Telnor phone I would suggest you buy a 2 line phone system, I have an ATT+T 5.8 digital plus, with base unit that has answer system for both lines and I have 3 additional units that just plug in to electrical circuit, the range is unbeliveable. It was not cheap though.

For Skype, a computer that you can get online with Telnor or Telmex DSL plan.

We have Vonage...works fine.
Except that during the power outages in the fall, the modem got fried.
They replaced it, no charge but we were without service for several months waiting for someone to bring the new one down to us.

Look at Net2phone

I have Vonage and just got another line with net2phone . Same requirements & equipments , but a bit cheaper.

Both are better quality then skype and others that I have tried.

Try www.magicjack.com

Mine works great.I like it because it can travel with you. Anywhere you have internet you have a phone. You also have your own number and free answering. They now have international prices also. Mexico. 2 cents a min landline , 9 cents cell. k:yes:

I just got back from Baja where I tested a Magicjack phone at 3 locations. The first was DSL and the other 2 were sat. systems, Starband and Hughs Directway. The Magicjack worked great even on the sat. systems. It is now being used at one of the Meling Ranches. I have found the international calling to be a little high, 9 cents for landline and 30 cents for cell. I am also a current user of Vonage and Yahoo Voice. For a travel phone I think that Magicjack is the way to go.

Add a Microphone and Speaker and you're there. The SKYPE program is free. You might want to invest in one of those headset/microphone sets, they work great.

You call computer to computer free, a couple cents a minute to the old country. You have to pay ahead 10 or 25 bucks.
