"Dear Reader
We are happy to introduce ourselves to the Northern Baja community with this first issue of the Baja News. We are very enthusiastic about the
opportunity to bring the news to all English speakers who want to know what is happening in their local areas. We feel that we have a fresh and
different style that will always look to bringing a balanced
view of living and working in northern Baja. Our vision is to give the public this new alternative to the Spanish voice publications. In doing so, it
will educate and inform the reader; broadening their view of the beauty and the opportunities that Northern Baja has to offer.
We will strive to report in English in such a way that will also give the reader a sense of Mexico as a unique way of life for Americans who choose to
live and retire here.
Our intention is to cover the many diverse aspects of Baja life. We will offer articles on Baja’s wild life, its night life and the life of its
people. The talented writers and photographers will cover breaking news, as well as issues of ecology, travel, business, entertainment and the arts.
All this will be delivered in a timely manner right to your favorite locations. We hope to generate a passion that will promote active support of the
community in which we live.
The Vision of the staff of the Baja News is to become the best! And with this in mind, we welcome your ideas for this new format. We wish to serve the
community in an authentic way that will create an image of real life experiences for the new arrivals from the US, and some timely “dos and don’ts” to
help them move through the Mexican system. And at the same time we will continue to inform and inspire those who have lived here for many years. We
believe that we can betterserve the reader by maintaining a positive style and a good spirited nature.
We will be focusing on generating new energy for local businesses, as well as informing the public about a wide variety of issues that they will feel
good about sharing with family and friends. Often we are asked why we live in Mexico. We envision that the Baja News will be an honest answer to that
question."

There was a roundtable discussion of the deceased Gringo Gazette and the new Baja News.
In general, they liked the Baja News and there was general headshaking about the radical direction that the old Gringo had taken - i.e., the
consistant muckracking without balance.

WHERE'S THE NEWS?! Whats the point of having what basically amounts to another real estate flyer with mostly ads and a few lame stories. Nothing
actionable. No news. Nothing. This board does a better job of getting the news out than this paper will (in it's current state at least).
Yes, Nancy went over the edge on occasion- but at least we knew where the edge was. Now we have nothing but rumors and whatever Torres wants us to
believe in his rag.

Just Try To Bring Fair and Balanced
And see what will happen.
Mexico does not have a tradition of independent journalism.
Most newspapers and other media are funded by wealthy individuals to promote their interests, political and otherwise.
The people I know who knew, whether in business or just in general, of the Gringo Gazette, are amazed that she escaped an execution style killing
(i.e., the founder of Zeta and other crusading Mexican reporters).
So, if you are interested in getting the U.S. style of investigation and advocacy started in Mexico, I suggest that you start an internet blog and
keep your location secure.

1) is there a hard copy available
2) how often will it be published?

Reading it was a treat for me. It is not textbook journalism but I liked it very much. Instead of trying to write to a common denominator of many
interests each article was independently aimed at a very, very different reader who would probably not have any interest in the other articles.

I seem to recall that the SudCalifornio at one time had a weekly column of local news written in English by an American woman. The column was
terminated because the writer had an unfortunate addiction to the truth.

It's bound to be just that. The publisher has seen first hand what contentous reporting will lead to and will avoid that foremat leaving the reader
with real estate adds and restaurant reviews. We will have to look elsewhere for the big picture. So far, BajaNomad is the best source.
Personally, I didn't and don't expect anything else.

Three of the articles had a personal touch for me.
Gordon Gastil's "Follow The Sun" whether fiction, fantasy or partly factual was amusing although out of place in the paper. I remember him from when
I worked at SDSU.
"Sola in Baja" struck a chord with me because I am and many of my friends are. I would add that this is a lifestyle for many Mexican women who are
worth getting to know but hard to find because custom isolates them.
"La Punta..." indulged my memory of the Baja of my childdhood. It was a snapshot of the territory that jogged my memory about the experience.
