viva san felipe?
I was thinking about doing some traveling to San Felipe. I've never been & I've been hearing good things about the
quiet town. Does anyone have a few words of advice for me regarding exploring the town??:

Come on DOWN !
They can use the business, especially right now.
It certainly is a bit quiet. Bring CASH.
AND, the good news is that the crime problem has improved by at least one last week.

Welcome to BajaNomad, venus.
To tell you the truth, I havn't been over there for forty + years. I heard somewhere it had grown a bit.
Like Bill said, bring fun tickets and don't camp in isolated places and don't be on the big road at night and have a good time.

Like any big towns, there is crime...Yep, just like here in the good Ol' U. S. of A
Use common sense and you will be fine, i.e., stay out of dark alleys at night, don't flash your cash, don’t leave valuables
in plain sight in your car....

We just got back
From there on Wednesday. We camped south of town at Rancho Percebu. The town was really quiet compared to trips the last 3 years at the same time
although baja 250 traffic was heading in as we left. Bargains are still to be had and lots of good-natured haggling was done by my kids. The atm is
one block off the malecon at bancomer. Gas was .67 a liter. The weather was great and the people are friendly as usual. Any specific questions feel
free to ask away. We kept our valuables outta sight and never felt threatened or in danger at anytime. We travelled with the wife and 4 kids ages
6,8,11,13 We also had our dog that we left at camp some and left in our vehicle during dinner one night.

Be careful for your dog. It's said MrBill has land mines planted all over the place at Percebu.

It was my buddy Andrew's last trip to Baja. But, while he was feeling great, he wanted to explore San Felipe. So, he loaded up his CJ-7 Rock
crawler, and my buddy Mike and I drove our Rubicons down for the week (in early April '07).
We stayed at the Langosta Roja (Red Lobster), and with their 24 hour security, our Jeeps weren't touched, even though the Rubicons command a high
price on the black market thanks to the parts they come with from the factory. Nothing was taken, stolen, nada. Sure, we paid $80/night to stay
there, but we were in a great location, and we had the time of our lives.

Went down last weekend for 4 days and had a great time.
We ate at Palaypa Del Mar with 4 beers and 2 Margaritas and 2 orders of fish tacos for 30 bucks.

San Felipe is a great place to go to in Baja lots of places to stay.We have been going for years and have had no problems. My kids loved going to San
Felipe when they were young, in fact they still do. Fish taco are great and lots of shops to go to and get lots of the same ol mexican junk.Head south of San Felipe towards Puertocitas(not sure on the spelling) take any of the roads that head to the ocean and you will find some
beautiful beaches, but watch for soft sand. A 4x4 is nice to have to explore with. Also the giant cactus place I think it is called The Land of the
Giants and Puertocitas has hot springs if the tide is right.
Have a good trip,I think it will become a yearly trip, it did with us.
