Viva Mexico

Not really specifically about Baja, but there is a good article in the Sat (April 19) Globe and Mail... sorry I tried to link to the article but it was only accessed as paid article (!)
In one of the paragraphs Brenda Martin states...

"Yet Mexico is also still a developing country, and it has the same problems that other developing countries have, including poverty, corruption and a serious problem of personal security and violent crime. Indeed, it has alarmingly high crime rates overall, and drug gangs are a major and growing threat. But these are primarily a problem for Mexicans themselves as it is Mexicans who are usually the victims. It's true that visitors can also fall prey, and sometimes too Canadians are the victims. Since 2000, 249 Canadians have been murdered in other countries, 15 of them in Mexico. Obviously, common sense and good judgement should not be suspended while on vacation there. But 56 Canadian homicides occurred in the United States during the same period. So where is the "don't visit America" website?"
(she is referring to a website created by someone supporting a Canadian that is jailed in Mexico and charged over allegations involving an internet fraud. The website states"Enough of this crap. Mexico is corrupt at all levels and unsafe for tourists to visit")

Remember, when in Mexico, yes may be no and no may be
maybe!

Shouldn't we know how many Canadians visited Mexico and the US in the same time period as the homicides for the numbers to be statistically meaningful?

Easy for me to understand the above sentiment since the lady mentioned has been in a Mexican prison for over two years without being sentenced. She's still there. This case will probably seriously damage Canadian tourism in Mexico in the near future.
