Todos Santos Crime Increasing?
I keep reading posts about the increase in the crime rate in T.S. but there really doesn't seem to be the posts I would expect if this is really true.
I'm headed down in June should I be concerned and watch my back or follow my usual precautions? Can my fellow Nomads tune me up and let me know what
to expect?

That is the million $ question!!!! Is there really a lot more crime in the area or is it because we have a better system of communication (namely the
baja onion) and the
new is getting out.
It seems to me that there is in fact increased crime. Am I surprised... no. I guess that is to be expected when there is obviously some very wealthy
people moving into a relatively poor area.
The topic has been discussed at length in another thread... increase in population, increase in workers from other areas and numerous other factors.
I for one still very safe in our bario and with our neighbors who are mostly mexicans. Would I feel as safe leaving my unattended house in Las
Tunas... not sure about that.
Remember, when in Mexico, yes may be no and no may be
maybe!

I encourage all who live in the area to come ....
Evidently, The last time this was tried several officials from the police and the La Paz gov attended, but the turnout was so low they left thinking
there was no crime problem in Todos Santos. I didn't make it to the meeting either.
It is really important for all of us who are potentially impacted to attend ....
The Mexican gov places great importance on community involvement ....
So come and let's learn what is really happening and see if we can do anything about what seems to be a growing problem.
EDITORIAL: I personelly believe this is driven by increases in meth (crystal, ice, etc.) consumption. The same thing that ruined the Haight
Ashbury in the early seventies. It is the biggest bang for the smallest buck, in the states it is the drug of choice of poor people and white
trash ... The rich can afford cocaine.

Crime in Todos Santos
Castaway, check your U2U.
Marie Rose, good point on the communication angle. My house was hit a few days before our arrival last month and while I was filing the report there
seemed to be many folks in the same boat. Hopefully the word will get out to the government and they can fund the police force to tackle this thing. I
was disappointed at the attitudes of some of the people in town trying to keep a lid on the issue, of course they had not been ripped off yet so time
will tell. The good thing is that it is still a small area and the full timers and locals are not happy about the issue.
