New road to Ensenada

Hi folks, I understand that there is a new 4-lane road from Otay Mesa to Ensenada (or maybe Rosarito) - in any case it by-passes the Tijuana area completely. I would appreciate any detailed directions on how to access it, the highway number, where it starts and ends, etc.
Many thanks.

This would be Blvd 2000. Go to the bottom of this page to the Google search, click on BajaNomad.com and type in Blvd 2000. Should be plenty of info. There was also a thread on the board last week titled Tecate to Ensenada. Also some info on Blvd 2000

I use it all of the time. Other than the current construction right as you get on Industraial Blvd, it's a great trip.

I just bumped my road log of it to the top of the Nomad 'Road Conditions Forum'... here's the link: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=24396

There is construction going on just south of the Otay Border, which may involve some detouring... However, once on the Blvd. 2000, it is great... We used it 2 weeks ago, returning from the booksigning party.

Here's the road log from my post on the Road Conditions Forum:

MEXICO at Otay Border: Mile 0.0, Time 0:0

Head straight south, staying in left lanes. Follow signs for TECATE.

LEFT TURN at signal, slight curve to left just before signal: Mile 1.1, Time 0:03

Heading east on Blvd. Industrial... soon becomes divided highway!

Take new highway south, signed for Rosarito, Popotla, Ensenada (toll highway 2-D to Tecate curves to left, see toll gate, Big Horn Sheep monument almost unseen heading south): Mile 6.0, Time 0:13

Free Hwy. 2 (TECATE) interchange, continue south then southwest: Mile 13.0, Time 0:22

Cross the Rodriguez/ Tijuana reservoir and head into the hills...

Pass under the toll highway (Mex. 1-D) and come to the free highway (Mex. 1)... Mile 31.3, Time 0:38.

They will have it connected to the toll highway, but that work seems stalled. Too bad, but until then go a few miles on the free road to almost Puerto Nuevo where you can hop on the toll road for free.

Fox Baja Studio entrance is just to your right, Puerto Nuevo and access onto the toll highway is about 6 miles to your left.

New Road

I just drove down to Los Barriles on Tue.. I went from Tecate down Hi Way # 3, just before it joins Hi Way #1 at El Sauzal, there is a major road cutting down the South side hill about 3km. This road is big enought for 4 lanes. May be new road to bypass Ensenada ?

I was told by one of the Ortega brothers (you know...the brothers who own 1/2 of all the restaurants in Puerto Nuevo) that the reason for the hold-up regarding the connection of the four-lane to the toll-road to Ensenada is that the hold-up is because of the indecision regarding the construction of a toll booth at the ramp. They are arguing over demolishing the recently finished toll booth at the south end of Rosarito and rebuilding it near Puerto Nuevo, or just putting up a small booth at the entrance of the toll way.

They had years to work that out while they built the highway. How could that have been forgotten?

Yes - that's what it will be - a bypass around Ensenada. A Mexican bus driver from Tecate told us.
