Sportscaster Jim McKay died today at the age of 86.

In 1968 the NORRA Mexican 1000 was filmed by ABC’s Wide World of Sports and narrated by Jim McKay.

Here is a piece of the video he narrated.

Why is this in the 'Fishing and Hunting' forum?

Anyway, like Capt. Mike, I grew up watching ABC's Wide World of Sports and Jim McKay... Vaya Con Dios Jim!

McKay was solid and understated. He understood his role as the messenger and kept the focus on the story. He and his production staff also provided behind-the-scene info to make the most obscure event(barrel jumping, cliff diving, demo' derby) more entertaining.

McKay was very different from today's self-promoting jock barkers.

Maybe Jim McKay loved to hunt and fish. Then again, maybe he hated it. Either way, he just passed away so we have to honor his deep feelings toward hunting and fishing, whatever they are....or were.
