News report on Pemex price differentials

http://www.9news.com/news/watercooler/article.aspx?storyid=9...

I wonder how this will affect tourism? Will Pemex raise the price along the border to compensate, or will the border patrol get more strict with regard to people bringing gasoline/diesel back across the border?

I brought back 5 gal. on Friday evening, and nothing was even said. That being the case, this weekend, I'm bringing back 10 gal. along with a full tank.

As for the naysayers, I commutted to work and back on cheap Pemex gas and prices at the pump here have me in shock.

Sin embargo, en rueda de prensa, la titular de la Secretaría de Energía (Sener) afirmó que también debe salvaguardarse el nivel de vida de la población."

Transalation:

While $20 Billion is a large amount of subsidy money, I was wishing this wouldn't happen...

I would hate to see some idiots blow themselves up moving gas back across the border. The baja nomads know how to do this properly and safely- but I fear some knuckleheads will fill their trunks with gas in milk jugs or an equally unsafe equivalent. Too much can happen to your car between the local PeMex station and the border. Come to think of it- I don't want to even be waiting in line to cross the border with some idiot loaded with gas inside his car next to me.

I'm surprised to see Mexico admit to spending $20 Billion subsidizing gas prices at the pump while at the same time asking the USA for $1 Billion to fight the narcos. Seems like a lot of gas though. If they are eating even $2 for every gallon of gas sold below market at the pump- they are saying Mexico is using 10 billion gallons of gasoline? In how long?
