Finch? Warbler?
Hi there,
This liitle girl has just finished building her nest on a very precarious bouganbilia branch together with her mate and is now settling down to nest.
Anyone know what she is?

Either a vireo or a warbler in my opinion. Beak seems to be too narrow to be a finch.

Is the nest a comfly looking pouch with an entry hole pointing downward? If so, you are probably going to have a brood of verdins. If the nest is a
regular basket style, it is likely a warbler. Both are common in BCS.

Hola,
Yes, thats funny that you mention it, but i've never seen a nest with an entry from below, and it is indeed very cozy looking. A Verdin then? I will
look that up as I've never heard of it before.
thanks Tehag!

Verdin
This is an adult verdin. Very small, very active little bird. Eats lots of bugs.

I love this Baja Nomad site! I saw this little bird and it's mate eating out of my hummingbird feeder this morning. I first noticed the yellow head,
then the red on it's wing. I assumed it was a finch. But, once again, I learned something on Baja Nomad.............
Who would've guessed?????????
The birds were very active in my mesquite tree this morning and I'm thinking about going to get them a feeder tomorrow. I hope they settle in and
build a nest!
Thanks for the info Nomads!

Pretty sure that's not a verdin. Verdin's are more streamlined, small and greener. They like inland locales, not beach. They nest in cacti in
little round ball-like nests. I've only seen verdin in Baja (not So. Cal.).

This is a photo of a verdin emerging from its nest in a lime tree.

I'm agreeing it doesn't look like the pictures of the verdin. The birds that I have seen at home have a full yellow body. And the original picture
posted by aqbluegreen looks to be full yellow body also.

Here is an elimination website for yellow perching birds of Baja.
http://www.whatbird.com/birdexpert/StateColorSize/4/887/306/...
Also check out the Belding's Yellowthroat "Geothlypis beldingi," which is not listed, but distinctive for the black eye mask--I can't see it in the
photos.

You get the best looks at it, Aqbluegreen--maybe these sites can home you in on the critter. Let us know what you think. Good luck.

To me it looks like a female oriole. Was the nest a hanging nest?
