Good Eats at La Estancia (Apologies to Woosh)
Yesterday, we had a late lunch/early dinner at La Estancia in Rosarito.
I know that Wooosh is unhappy with the place since they changed their location, but I can only speak to my experience.
The room was busy with local families and professionals in business dress.
As usual, we were greeted warmly and service was prompt.
The Growling Gabacho had his usual rib eye and I had the grilled salmon fillet, which was cooked medium rare with crisp skin, as requested,
We ordered the house special appetizer, queso fundido with mushrooms and a mild red dried chile. It was so good that I threatened to lick the plate.
When I asked the manager what kind of cheese they use, he brought out a wheel, labeled "Alphorn Monterey, Wisconsin"
I don't know what the total was, but my salmon entree was $12.00; a 10-12 oz filet, (can I say "leftovers"?), with tortilla soup, salad, and a baked
potato.
Now, some minor glitches. The baked potatoes were served cold. The server eagerly offered to correct the problem, but the replacements were also
cold. No matter, we just packed them into the take home box, to enjoy later.
