Hotel America Tijuana

Spend two nights here last weekend in Tijuas. Great comfortable hotel with AC that works when it wants to! Reasonable in price, very friendly front desk staff and next to the Auto-tortilleria! The scent of fresh masa roasting in that place is intoxicating add to the mix a bowl of their menudo and heaven!

Hotel America in TJ

you are right. It's my fave hotel in TJ. The staff is very friendly and polite and they speak good English. The air conditioner is excellent, there is a heater (amazing!), safe deposit boxes, an oxxo 1/2 block away, etc. It's like maybe 3 blocks from revolution, close to border and 2 dentists, etc. It's quiet, very clean, safe, and private. It's like maybe $40-50 a night, I think. I love it there when I can afford it. Definitely worth it.

Huh? They have a vault, with individual security boxes, just like in a bank, where you can store your documents and other valuables. What's so weird or puzzling about that?

It's the "They" part that has me confused.

There is a vault to the left of the front desk. It's very secure and professional. The desk dude has a key and so do you. Like at a bank, I think both keys are needed to open your box. They don't have extra copies of the keys so if you lose yours ya gotta pay a lot to get a new one- i think over 50 bucks!
Don't worry; it's not a seedy motel.
