first time in baja, not mexico
hola nomads,
i'm planning my first trip to baja in september, and am looking for your advice on where to base myself for a week.
my wife and i are active (love kayaking, fishing, scuba, tennis, etc) and are looking to enjoy these sorts of activities along with the real baja, to
whatever extent that's possible for a first time visitor to the area (ie no mega hotels...). we're pretty adventurous with our food, and have no
problem going off the beaten path, especially if there's a reward at the end of the trail!
so after a little reading, i'm trying to figure out whether to spend the week in san jose del cabo or la paz, or maybe even out on the east
cape...they all sound appealing, but i'd like to hear your thoughts... is san jose del cabo too built up? is it just for tourists? is la paz worth the
extra travel time? is east cape too sleepy for a first time visit?
any insights would be most welcome!
muchissimas gracias

Hola MItch and a big old baja welcome to you...you will find lots of usefull info here for your trip...much depends on if you are driving or flying
and where to. The cape region is very built up....La Paz is more like Mexico and not too far away. Also visit Todos Santos too....have a great trip.

Cabo- NOT!!!
If you like Coney Island you will love Cabo.
If you want to see Baja then La Paz and/or Todos Santos is your answer.
(actually, the better answer is to venture North to Loreto and Mulege and Concepcion Bay)

La Paz is a city.. Loreto is a town.. both have full services for tourists.. It really depends on what you want to do/ see.
From what you posted, I would go for Loreto... Sept. is still hurricane season, so you may get wet! It will be very hot and humid. A trip up to Mision
San Javier is well worth it.
