Take-Down in Los Barriles
Here is a link to a story from today's Vancouver Sun - it's regarding the arrest of a drug kingpin at the hot dog stand in Los Barriles last March.
Looks like a canadian dude may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Weird! We met that couple at Rice & Beans. They were looking to move to Baja with no papers & no idea of what where or how. We gave them a
Baja map so they wouldn't get lost with their 2 small kids. We suggested Los Barriles as a good spot to settle.
He said he had been a general contractor in Vancouver & made lots of money flipping houses, but seemed a fast talker to me.
Too bad for the wife & kids.

In Mexico you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent,
Basic tenant of Napolionic system of injustice...
Even in the US, you can't hang out with criminals or you will become a part of their movie.

Regarding Napoleanic law in Mexico and presumed innocence, in 2008 Calderon has signed an amendment to the Constitution to move toward "innocent until
proven guilty" law system allowing oral testimony and cross examination in court.
A Mexican version of the patriot law amendment was defeated in the process. The transition is in place and will take up to 8 years however we can
state Napoleanic Guilty until proven innocent is no longer the law on the books in Mexico, Today.

We used to have law of presumed innocence in the USA where as a writ of habeus corpus-- or 'you have the body' what is the charge, could be demanded
of the courts. But USA no longer abides by this under Bush's executive orders and now we have thousands of people including citizens held without
charges or evidence, some for as much as 7 years under torture, as well spying without warrants or evidence of cause but that is being looked at in
by the court in a challenge case by the ACLU.

known as the Security Prosperity Pact signed by Vincente Fox, Bush and the then Prime Minister of Canada. In 2007 the SPP was reinforced by Calderon,

That's true, but whether it is that way or the "innocent until proven guilty" way of North America is not really relevant. In the US or Canada, basic
civil liberties give the person arrested a right to an arraignment within just a few days and a chance to post bail. Even a person arrested in the
company of a drug lord in the US, if he had no priors and was not found with anything illegal on his person, would make bail in 72 hours, max.
In Mexico, one just sits in jail while people push papers back and forth for months and years. It's really a basic civil rights issue...not a
Napoleonic Law issue.
