tijuana crossing memorial day

We usually come and go via Tecate but circumstances dictate we cross at Tijuana this time and it looks like we'll be going north around memorial day weekend. Anyone have suggestions as to which day (Sat. Sun. Mon. Tues.) or time is better for this crossing? Over the last couple of decades whenever we crossed at Tijuana we were invariably pulled over to secondary. I get a sick stomach just thinking about the abuses we suffered at their hands with two little kids in the car. Oh well. The kids are grown and on there own and we are older and mellower. Would appreciate any suggestions to make it easier.
Thanks a bunch.
