Actually it is a mushroom(russula) that has been parasitized by a mold(hypomyces lactiflorum)

Tastes like lobster what else!!:wow:

They are ending up on fresh halibut at thr restaurant!:lol:

The picture below shows what the mushroom would have looked like had it not been attacked and morphed by a mold.

This is the only mushroom in the world that changes it's look feel, taste and smell. It is not an edible mushroom until this change.

These are the best examples I've ever found. I found them beneath our largest tree. A 200 year old Douglas fir.

These are choice edibles with great presentation. Sliced thinly and cooked with garlic and wine.
