help! pleez. We have a planned vacation down South of ze border arriving about 09/06 to Serenidad and hanging Mulege AREA Bahia de Concepcion...ETC
Word up is there a muyo mucho mosquitoes. Perhaps this would be the perfect-o time to adventure elsewhere on ze Baja peninsula. We have never been
to BOLA or hung in San Felipe. Where would we stay??? Need your help guys with a new itinerary pronto!!! we will be traveling with dos perro also.!

check out www.sanfelipe.com.mx they have all the hotel numbers and email addys. We stay at the Hotel Cortez just because it's the closest to the water from
the room as my husband can't stay in the sun and heat for long periods of time. There are other great choices. Someone from BOLA I'm sure will answer
you about their area. Have a great trip,k

Welcome to Baja Nomads
I hope you have a great trip. The road down to San Felipe should be fine from here in Mexicali. Do you plan on heading south from there on the
gravel road? It's a great drive; but, not well suited for passenger cars. You don't need a monster truck as my Subaru handles it just fine.
I have yet to stay at El Cortez (since S.F. is a day trip for us)... But it is where I'd stay from what I've seen. I've heard good things about it.
You will need to get a tourist visa, and Mexican auto insurance is highly recommended. I'm not sure about paperwork for your dogs; but, if you
search around here or elsewhere online you will find more info.

thanx to all. We've travelled Baja many times. So we've got the vehicle, dawgs, & insurance covered. Just needed some suggestions on places to
see/hang other than Mulege Bahia de Concepcion. Si, Serenidad restaurant is closed SEPT not the Hotel Bar or pool. We have reservations there tho
are thinking Naranjos on the Bahia beach looks inviting. Just conecerned about ze bugz, and if the town is up & running. Keep the info and ideas

Mulege is handling its recent experience very well.
Restaurants that are in compliance with the Health Department's post-flood restrictions are up and running; street-food vendors are not operating yet.
We continue to clean-up on the river. The town is clean and the roads cleared of all dirt.
I've not noticed an increase in mosquitos or flies or vermin of any kind as people are aware of these risks and are taking appropriate pro-active
measures of prevention.
Mulege would appreciate your support at this time by your visit.

our visit to Mulege
we certainly would love to come to Mulege. Just were concerned that as vacationers...we don't want to appear as rude Americanos traipsing into town
while everyone is or if they are digging out. We plan on arriving around the 6th or 7th from the Bay Area CA. and if there is anything we can
bring...pleez let me know ASAP so we can load up our van. Look for a beater gold Honda Odyssey and my cell is 707-318-9747 Susan and works in Baja! Hope to meet you along the way~ happy trails!

i saw 2 "bug sprayer" pickups the other day at the gas station
they drive around spraying something to kill bugs

the moscas are one thing but the sand fleas on the beach are the worst!! yikes they will eat you alive.
hotels on the bay?? what where??
serenidad is not totally closed this month - you can get rooms but the kitchen restuarant and bar are shut down for the month yes.
stay at the little motel next to Maribelle's park. la serena is their restaurant there.

You might try picking up a mosquito net for your hotel bed online or at an outdoor retailer like REI, etc.. I have two made by "Mombasa"
I have two versions. A small twin sized version for myself which packs to about 3"x6" or a larger queen/king sized version that packs to about
5"x12". The holes are a little bigger than most mosquito nets... but it always seems to work for me.. and lets some breeze though.
I also recommend that you bring about 25' of thin nylon cord to hang from one side of the room to the other... then hang the net from this line
instead of trying to reach/screw a hook into the ceiling. I find door hinges, windows, curtain rods, etc.. to be great anchor points. If you know
your knots.. tie a bowline on one anchor, a clove hitch at the mosquito net loop (to keep it from sliding around or out of position on the line, and a
tautline at the other anchor to adjust the tension as needed. Be sure to tuck the whole thing under the mattress and make sure the flap is closed or
it won't work.
This whole setup is pretty lightweight, packable, and very effective against mosquitoes or any other creepy-crawlies you wish to keep out of your bed
for the night.

Try Hotel Bueanventura, approx. 20 miles south of Mulege, right on the beach, and on the sourth end of the Bay of Conception. Reataruant and bar
right next door. No reservations needed this time of year. 20 rooms all beach front. Way cool...
Mexico!! Where two can live as cheaply as one.....but it costs twice as much.....

When we were there in 2007 Serinidad would not allow dogs in their hotel rooms.
When you need to leave the dogs in a car in hot weather and a lot of mosquitos, you can cut some fiberglass screen into big squares. Leave the
windows down, hold the screen over the window on the inside of the door, and shut the door on the screen.
