Mood: Blessed with another day

[*] posted on 9-23-2008 at 12:40 PM

Mom and Dad both gone.
Mom, my soul mate or kindred spirit untill I met my wife, had faith, died tragically of cancer after a life of health, she was strong and positive to the end, an inspiration and a saint.
Dad was a war hero, a good dad but not my friend, had no faith, died bitter and sad.
I don't know what happened with complete certainty to either of them, but it sure makes you think about things when both your earth parents are gone.
I will know for sure what happened to all my loved ones and friends one day though, when I die.
Don't need any songs, just one Book
Peace out

Really interesting thread amigos. I have a little story, It's very long and some of you campfire types have heard the long version but here is just a snippet to add to this thread about thoughts of dying.

I LOVE life soooo much, I have always hated the idea of the party ending. I didn't fear death but just didn't want it to happen for a long long long time. Three times, there have been reports of my death which luckily(for me) were confused with someone else. Here, my amigos say that is good and means I will live a very long life.

Once I thought I was dead...it was at sea in a hurricaine when I lost conciousness after being at the helm of a small sailboat for 3 days and nights. When I came to....I was 100% certain I was dead.

It was a very curious experience becasue I was extremely GLAD I was dead. I felt fantastic...still had my body...felt perfect...content and for the first time in my life totally peaceful. I reflected on how terrific this all was because now I didn't have to worry about dying in a traffic accident, or being murdered, or suffering a horrible disease...it was already over and I could now get on with my NEW life!!! I was being escorted to the light I saw in the clouds in the distance by 2 whales....cool man...whales were the angels taking me to the light!!! Weird eh! Never thought I'd be happy to be dead, but I was.

Well, turns out I wasn't dead after all....I had been saved by a couple of finback whales...but that my amigos ....is another story.

Morose

This posting is the winner of the "Unofficial Most Depressing Award" (UMDA) for 2008.

It should give rise to a whole new franchise of postings to include:

How do you feel about getting a terminal disease?

How do you feel about getting a crippling physical ailment?

How do feel about turning into a vegetable after a horrific car accident?

Look on the bright side: Reality TV has become too cookie-cutter as I hear people complaining about it (don't watch it myself). This posting cures that problem and sets itself up as a great replacement for Fall TV Season failures.

Great thread Woody. I've thought about this many times. For me, when it's my time, I just want to go quickly.... don't want to hang on very long. And, I don't want to live to be very old, like in to my late 80's and 90's....... no way.
Interesting replies here.

This thread should read, How do you feel about dying in BAJA
I think it should be in the off topic section, not in the Baja question & Answers. What it is going on with all this non-Baja threads, are we running out of trip reports or what, JUST MY 2 PESOS.

Sorry BAJACAT but a few more before I'm done. These are from 'Love and Death':

--------------------------------------

Allen: Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm dead.
Keaton: What's it like?
Allen: What's it like? You know the chicken at Tresky's restaurant?
Keaton: Yeah.
Allen: It's worse. Worse than the chicken at Tresky's.

--------------------------------------

After all, you know, there are worse things in life than death.

If you've ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman,

you know exactly what I mean.

-----------------------------------------

The key here, I think, is to not think of death as an end,

but think of it more as a very effective way of cutting down on your expenses.

------------------------------------------

What happens after we die?

Is there a hell? ls there a God?

Do we live again?

<silence>

All right. Let me ask one key question.

- Are there girls?

Consider every night right before you go to bed and willingly
surrender yourself to the darkness.....Some nights you are so tired that you just can't wait to "turn yourself off"
Of course we all have expectations of getting up yet again.
Oh yes Lazarus! But what if you didn't? Oh to be so lucky to die painlessly in your sleep.
