Oasis Hotel in La Paz
Nomads,
Shari mentioned the Oasis Hotel in La Paz as a great choice...and indicated that Comitan might have more specific directions than she could offer
(although her directions would likely get me there)
Comitan...you out there?
I have previously preferred Las Gardenias at the eastern side of town, but it has been "improved" and the rates reflect it.
Will be travelling with a truck and bike trailer, so parking and "security" is preferred.
Any other suggestions?
Gracias, amigos y amigas...

For how long will you need the place?... check losaripes.com, you might get a break on the rate if it is for more than 4 weeks....

We do not do directions in La Paz? That takes the fun out.
I always pass Oasis before I find it, since its entrance is subdued but there is a big sign that says Oasis.
Oasis hotel is on Agustin Olachea 1-2km before Colosio
try this +52 (612) 124-1072
If you are coming from outside of town to the north for example the airport, you would enter town and continue fading right at the entrance, whale
tail/dove symbol, follow the libremiento (freeway) right, do not fade left to the malecon el centro. Without making a turn you will be on the right
street, apparently the road will be now called Calle Augustin Olachea though I have never seen a sign. Continue on this route, after 2-3km on the left
you will see a large Ley grocery store and soon after on the right is Oasis.
Olachea is 2-3 lanes on each side, so its a main artery. Stay in the right lane.
If you see a large intersection of Colosio and Olachea you went too far by 1-2km.
There is not a grand entrance, its looks quite small between two buildings-restaurant and office, but there is a vehicle entrance and inside is tons
of safe parking, courtyards, pools, 100's of pleasant rooms and great prices.
Its possible to park outside at the entrance and visit the office and then go in, but the parking outside on the thoroughfare is pretty close to
traffic and bit dangerous to try to back up so I suggest you enter immediately and park and walk back to the office. Then find your room. There might
be a speed bump so enter slowly, and you find the entrance tight. Go slowly.
Its just a little far (5-10 minutes) from the malecon but its a perfect place to stay.

We've stayed at the Oasis the last couple of visits to La Paz. Gnukid gave you good directions, 'cause I am always confused as to how we get there.
My husband is from La Paz, so he does the driving!
Besides the courtyard parking, which you enter through the little archway near the office, there is also a large parking lot on the side of the hotel.
I've noticed semi's parked here, so would be easy to get around with trailer, etc. Not sure how secure that is, though. Last time we were there
there were a couple of security guards that came out at night.
Some of the rooms can be noisy, either from the air conditioner, (esp. corner rooms), or from the peac-cks. They used to be running around the place,
but think they have been confined to the owners' house by the back pool. They were worse than the roosters, though, with their early morning wake-up
calls!
Enjoy, we always do. Heather

I understand that they do take dogs, as I have had friends bring their dogs there though I do not know that they advertise it. I would try to ask if
it would it be okay if your dog sleeps in a crate and that it won't be loose in the room or on the grounds...
An oh by the way, speaking of dogs, just across the street a block or so is a large dark greenish warehouse type store with supplies for animals, hay,
feed etc... They have everything for dogs, sweaters, food, medicina de pulgas y todas. We also have more vets in la paz than you can imagine just keep
em on a leash so they are safe.
