need travel information
Hi to all Nomads, I have been lurking on this site for a couple of years, and find it amusing as well as a great information spot, in fact the very
best.
I feel as I know a lot of people, just by looking at the site every few days. It is like google, wikipedia, all the books you can read, It is all
right here.
My wife and I want to go down BAJA sometime in DECEMBER, we want to stay in a very reasonably priced HOTEL/MOTEL every couple of days, we can sleep in
the back of my truck the in between days, will probably go for 2-3 weeks depending, We will need a place that takes our wonderful loving CHOCOLATE
LAB, so I would appreciate it if some people can set us up a itinerary, leaving from Ensenada, to Cabo, and back. I have driven with friends a few
times, but it has been several years, We both have FM3 etc, just need places that are fairly reasonable and take dogs.

Make sure you talk to someone who knows the rules and find out which shots, etc., your dog needs, make sure he/she gets them, and MAKE SURE you have
documentation of that with you. I never did take my old Black Lab, "Dawg" with me to Mexico, but did to Canada several times, and with appropriate
paperwork there was no problem at all.........and it Was asked for.
My experience in Mexico seems to show that the rules change somewhat depending on who you talk to, and I haven't mastered the art of offering mordida,
so make very sure all t's are crossed and i's dotted. Make lots of phone calls, and I'm sure others on this forum have plenty of experience to offer.
It would be devastating to have your dog impounded down there because of a technicality.

Thanks biglar he has all his shots, We have been living in Mexico, back and forth for several years.
I took him this year too RATTLE SNAKE avoidance school, In Julian it is really cool to watch this take place.

We have 2 Jack Russels that have allowed us to take them to their house in Los Barriles three times. The rule says you will need a health certificate
within 5 days of the time you cross the border. We do that but have never been checked. We stayed at desert inn in gurreo negro($80.00), The little
motel next to the Pemex in El Rosario(not mamas)($40.00) Very nice. Also Desert inn @ Catavina($40-50). All but Catavina had locked courtyard for your
vehicle.

How far in a day would you drive? I want to figure each place to stay, so I can pre plan my trip accordingly, in other words from Ensenada, do we stay
In El Rosario the first night, second night Guerrero, so on so forth, all the way to Cabo, again reasonable places that will take our Dog.

What interests you about Baja or the desert? Where you go and how long you stay will depnd on that... Ensenada to El Rosario is just 3 1/2-4 hours
driving time.

David, Thanks for the site, what unreal pictures and places to go, this is great info. we will take advantage of your places to go and see, but still
what I'm looking for, is lets just say this, I leave Ensenada driving straight thru to Cabo, no hurry, how far do we drive per day? and when we reach
that destination, where do we stay for a reasonable price with our Dog? I would like to know all the places that are available along the way that are
in the $40.00 to $50.00 Range, if we can drive for example 350 miles in aday where would that put us and where do we stay?

Mako: Just go down and take it easy and ask some of the mexicano Folks about the various Places. Find. out for yourself, make a few Mistakes, learn
the ways of Mexicanos.
Go through Tecate, stop at the Los Ciros Motel in San Quintin. _Two blocks East of the Main Road across the Corner from the hospital and Radio Tower.
Eat at the Isabela Rest.
On to GN stay at Don Gus eat at the Mallmarino.
Stop at Mulege, stay at the Las Casitas, go to Loreto stay at the Junipero/ or if you are rich stay at the Hotel Oasis{Oldest and Best}
On to La Paz which only takes about 4 1/2 hours and stay at the Gardinia, or if you have money the Marina Hotel.
Ask Directions, tak to the Mesxcanos People, learn their ways, be Happy.

OR, go to the Baja Cactus Motel in El Rosario (next to the Pemex where you should top off your tank)... Dogs okay if they stay off the bed. Email
Antonio at info@bajacactus.com or motel@bajacactus.com to reserve the room... Tell him we sent you! Mama Espinoza's Restaurant, La Bocana Beach
Restaurant, Tacos Mision, Baja's Best Bed & Breakfast/ Restuarant are all along the highway past the Pemex... in that order.
The next day, go to San Ignacio (316 miles)... Ignacio Springs Bed & Breakfast, Casa Leree, La Posada, Ricardo's Rice & Beans... Not sure
about the dog issues. Walk around the plaza, tour the mission and museum next door... awesome! See our photos there, last year: http://vivabaja.com/707
If it is still early and you want to gain some more ground... head on to Mulege (if it doesn't wash away today), just 83 miles away. Mulege to Cabo is
440 miles... long but mostly easy drive once over the mountains, south of Loreto.

As you may know, my specialty is off highway exploring to seek out historic sites like the missions, El Camino Real, old mines, petroglyphs, fossil
sites, as well as beautiful topography, canyons, beaches, etc. Some off road racing for fun and boost to the local economy once in awhile, too!

Another option in El Rosario: Motel La Tourista is brand new and doggy-ok, located way south of town on the left, 300 pesos per night.
Remember its another two hours south to Catavina with limited options there and another 4 or so south to Guerro Negro.
Have lots of fun!

Thanks mulegena, that is what I'm looking for, now I stay in El Rosario, and then on to Guerro Negro about 6 hours, then where would the next 6 or so
driving hours put me? this is what I want all the way to Cabo, stop every 6 hours or so, I need to know where I'll be, so I can plan on what place
I'll stay in.
I can do all the side trips from where I'm at when I reach these spots, I just need a itinerary of a trip south and stopping , don't want to drive
more than the above mentioned hours every day. Then If someone can give me the name of places to stay knowing where this time frame will put me. again
places in the $40-to $50 dollar / night range with my Dog.

Iguana Inn in Loreto is highly recommended by Nomads!
Guerrero Negro to Loreto is 260 miles.
Loreto to Cabo is 354 miles via Hwy. 1... less via Todos Santos (Hwy. 19)

Please don't give Mulege a miss. Its a pretty little town with lots of unique things to do.
Don't be afraid to go off the beaten path a little bit and don't worry about having a fixed itinerary-- follow your bliss, and remember to drive
slowly and watch for cattle grazing on the road shoulders and butterflies on cactus beckoning you this way or that.
Drive carefully. Live with abandon.
