Importing Car
We are flying up the the states this month to purchase a car/truck, then bringing it back down. Has any one imported one in Tecate? How long does the
process take and what documents do we need, we are Mexican Citizens. We would be driving it down to La Ribera to register it.

Then I wouldn't bother. You can drive it on expired plates.

They don't like to import them in Tecate anymore so they use NADA prices which is more than TJ, the cheapest place is TJ, and takes about 5 days
without your car, you can do it in La Paz for 1/2 again more money, and your car would not be legal in the US. All this info is to the best of my
knowledge not to be taken as the law.

Well,I am both Mex and Us citizen. I drove a US license plate truck in La Paz with expired tags, until they stopped and fined me, arguing that I
needed to have my tags renewed. No ifs or buts. So I paid the fine and went to customs broker Alfonso Solis (tel 122-0635 Cel 044-612-140-4840) to
have my truck imported. It cost me more -don't know how much more- by doing it here vs. the border.
Last April I drove the same truck to AZ with on Baja plates. Crossed the border with my US passport. The officer asked: "Whose truck is this?"....
mine
"Where is it registered?": Baja California Sur Mexico..... didn't bother to ask for papers...."have a good day Sr."
note: vehicle has to be at least 5 years old to qualify for import.
Importing the vehicle in La Paz is costly as there is a mordida built into the price. I was supposed to have done the import at the border.

God bless America
and Baja tambien
