Flying TIJ - LAP, immigration?

We're flying next week from Tijuana to La Paz on Volaris, first time flying out of TJ. We have FM-3's and I'm just wondering if we still have to deal with immigration when we land at La Paz, or do we get to skip that since this would be considered a domestic flight?

Thanks!

Jeff, unless someone with better info comes forward, I have read here that the visas are only checked on international flights... But, please stay tuned for more Nomad input or contact the airline or Mexican government for even more versions of the truth!

Thanks David, that's kinda my guess too. It doesn't matter either way as we have all the needed visas and such. Just curious as to what to expect. We'll find out for sure next week!

You'll have no immigration check at La Paz. If you're flying round trip, and you look gringo you may be asked at Tijuana to turn in your fmt. Just show them your FM3 and have it exit stamped if you want.

Jeff, I have flown out of TJ to La Paz twice.

In theory, in La Paz, you shouldn't have to deal with migracion since it is a domestic flight - however on my most recent trip a month ago, on arrival in La Paz I was asked what kind of visa I had, but the agent didn't ask to actually see it - he just let me walk through.

As for TJ, there is a migracion booth that you walk past as you enter the check-in area at the TJ airport. One time it was empty when I walked by but I noticed there was a guy on duty by the time I'd finished checking in. The other time there was a migracion agent on duty who asked to see my papers. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. It sounds like it should be a breeze. I'm really looking forward to trying Volaris this trip. Alaska Air's fares from San Diego have gone beyond ridiculous.

Jeff - have a great trip - by the way, I flew Volaris on my recent LAP-TJ-LAP trip and it was great. On time, efficient, and if I remember correctly the plane was an A319. I also took the Volaris shuttle bus from the TJ airport to the Santa Fe station in downtown San Diego and I was at the Santa Fe station 2 hours after landing at TJ. Not bad at all, I thought.

When we bought these tickets they had an introductory special for the route during October, the round trip price was aprox. $160 per person. Right now for travel in November you can probably find rates around $220-250, with the current exchange rate. I think the shuttle is $15 each way, but we're just planning to drive to the Tijuana airport and park there.

I paid around $180.00 US round trip LAP-TJ-LAP on Volaris. I had to keep checking the website daily until one day a special promotional fare popped up. The promo deals seem to last one week meaning you have to buy the ticket between certain dates and then fly within a certain time period also.

The shuttle is $15.00US or $165.00MN. The shuttle from the TJ airport to downtown San Diego was a breeze - you go through the sentri lanes and there is a bit of a bottleneck at the beginning where there are only 2 lanes of traffic, but when it opens up and fans out, the bus goes to the far right lane reserved for busses. You have to get off the bus with your luggage to go through immigration and customs and the bus then picks you up behind the McDonalds on the US side. The nice thing is that there is a special line for the bus passengers at immigration so you do not have to wait at the end of a long line of people who walked across the border, if there happens to be a long line that day.

I did not take the shuttle back from San Diego to the TJ airport simply because going southbound you have to be at the Santa Fe station 3 hours before your flight - and since I had an early morning flight...well, it just made leaving to get to the station on time far too early. Friends dropped me off at the border crossing and I walked across and took a taxi to the airport - also very easy and about the same price as the shuttle.
