Beautiful Diane!! Pelicans are such a bizarre design, but they sure do work. One of the best flyers in the bird world, that is once they get
airborne. Are those cormorants in the last photo? They look a little different than the ones I see all the time in CA. ++Ken++

Yes, they are cormorants---some days we have miles and miles of them. On edit---opps, not a cormorant in front, but thanks to Tehag, I now know that
is a tri-colored heron.
I love pelicans and never get tired of watching them---the one thing that always amazes me is that they really make very sloppy landings on the ocean.

Thanks Dianne. Beautiful shots. Pelicans are hands down my favorite birds. Such noble flyers. I will always stop what I am doing just to stare at
their odd behavior. They are very social and usually very polite to one another.Their personality type is much different lets say, than seagulls or
crows.They can be very curious and almost friendly with humans.I too have enjoyed watching their clumsy landings. I think their nose heavy. It looks
like alot of the birds weight is in its neck? I read some where that they are of original design going back a few million years. Only two other bird
species can make that claim, Loons and Herons. Mother natures perfect design from the beginning. ++C++

Thanks! I thought it was another cormorant---need to learn my birds better---- When I look at it, it doesn´t look anything like the cormorant.
Thanks---now I will know the difference.
Having fun trying to capture more shots of the birds in flight---lots of pictures of blank sky.  Great thing about digital is I can shoot 99
pictures and keep one.
Crusoe, I can watch the pelicans for hours, especially when they are diving---they are quite wonderful.

I have a Canon 40D (they now have the 50D) and I am using an all around travel lens---a Tamron 28-300 VC.
I am very new to learning anything about photography, and trying to learn a lot more. One thing I have learned is that it is a very expensive
hobby----my wish list is very long. 
Eventually, I would really like a fast dedicated 300mm lens. With the all around lens, much is lost at 300---expecially hand held.
OK, I also want a macro, a wide angle, on and on, but first I need to win the Lotto.

Thanks for the info. I know--it's really expensive. I'm also very new to learning about it and it seems very complicated, or maybe I'm making it
more complicated than I need to!
I've been having fun lurking on the discussion forums of this website: http://www.dpreview.com/ . As I know well from this site, it's very resourceful to learn from others!
Anyway, you've taken some great pictures...keep 'em coming!

Hi Diane
Those are great shots, you do an excellent job with your camera. Jane has the same camera and is now gone back to college for two years to get a
photography degree. She does have a number of lens and lots of experience and should get together with you over Christmas to discuss where you can
get the best bang for the buck with lens. You are right about the costs. She also has not gone Apple computer as well and will have her toys down
there for Christmas.
