Roger.
Although the Padres originally planted my Date Palms (not I), I have all the benefits by harvesting the bottoms of my shoes, or using a paint scraper
on my floor.
If I could just scrape together an alliteration of Zs, I would line them all up and their total would still not add up to one Zulema. However her
image in my head causes me to stutter, and it comes out like.....Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Zu-Zu-Zu-Zul-Zul-Zulema!
If you were to put it to sound, it would be kinda like the build up and then the climax of a sneezzzze.
Just the image of multiple Zulemas, lined up like a row of delectable Date Palms, singing and watering, is enough cause for me to lose
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs for a week.
Have a safe journey! When you return, take all the contending politicians with you. We are tired of all of them and need a week of peace and quiet
before the election.

Sha-kays Datil
It was probably 15 years or so ago that I had my most vivid dream that remains just as real to me today: BigWooo and I abandoned our former lives and
moved to Baja so I could fulfill my destiny to sell Date Shakes along the beaches of Bahia Concepción!
It started as a low-key, one-girl operation and I towed a fully equipped mobile Shake-Shack (trailer) around to each of the beaches and folks would
line up in their bathing suits to order fresh , thick, frosty ones. My sign said "Sha-kays Datil" ("sha-kay" being how I imagined a Mexicano would
say Shake).
They became so popular that I set up a permanent Shake palapa at the Hwy lookout between Playa Los Burros and Coco's (we were sleeping in our camper
at nearby Playa Escondida at the time of the dream).
Delicious Dates were plentiful and I kept my prices reasonable so everyone could enjoy them. Soon I had to set up tables for the large groups of local
families that would come on Sunday's to enjoy shakes and the view.
The venture was such a success that I awoke in a sweat from stressing about buying more generators to operate the blenders, and mobile freezers, and
quality ice cream resources, and franchises in Loreto and LaPaz...
This was such a unique dream and was so crystal clear that I only shared this business plan/vision with my husband just in case my life miraculously
followed that path, then I'd already be ahead of any competition. (I hate to admit this is actually true.)
Now that we're preparing to retire, I wonder if there will be enough hours in a day for all the surfing and fishing and gardening I want to do in
Baja. Alas, I definitely won't have time to fulfill my Sha-kays Datil dream so I'd like to pass the baton to another enterprising nomad. I guarantee
to be your best customer.

What about Coconut Palms?

GREAT IDEA!. Many Date sheds in Bard, California sell date shakes to winter tourist and I have many a tourist ask for directions to the Date Sheds
that make date shakes. You can't go wrong unless surfing, fishing and just enjoying retirement takes away from your work. I will predict your Date
Shakes will be in demand!!

sorry, I did not read your report throughly, but if some young person wanted to start such a venture I am sure it would be a success and perhaps leave
time for surfing and kayaking!

I was unable to view many of the photos from Pompano's report on Date fruit.

Perhaps the only thing date palms aren't good for is climbing.

Good story and pix, Pompano... thank you.
And btw, I'm kinda partial to that date-on-the-ground shot myself - nice color shades and textures.
I recently received by mail 2 large boxes of fresh dates from Blythe CA, courtesy of amigo bbbait. I'm planning to stuff some with cream cheese and
orange peel, make bread and candy from the rest.... if I don't first eat 'em all straight up.
Fresh dates are ever so much more tasty than the dried out store-bought ones.
