Hydrogen Powered Car to compete in 2008 Baja Race
Written by H2Daily staff
Wednesday, 29 October 2008
Advanced Technologies and Manufacturing Enterprises announce that it will race a fully functional hydrogen powered car in the 2008 Baja race.

This "sand rail" type racer will use a proprietary method to convert water into hydrogen on demand for the entire race. Water will be the ONLY source used during the race. No gasoline will be used at all.

We have been working on this process for over 15 years, we are also currently working on hydrogen technologies that will increase mileage on gasoline based cars (completed), completely power automobiles (completed), and provide unlimited power for ocean going vessels (3 years to complete).

All of our work has been done quietly until now; with our recently completed “on demand” process of electrolysis that is able to produce up to 400 liters of hydrogen per minute. Converting water to hydrogen in this way eliminates the need to store dangerous hydrogen in fuel cells or devise a complicated and costly hydrogen delivery network. All that is needed for our system is water and a base element, both of which are abundantly available.

To prove our system works we will be running the race using water as our only fuel source. At the race completion we will allow tests to validate that water was indeed our only "fuel" source

ha! racing is one thing - finishing is another

the engine is just one component in the whole equation.

this will be fun and i do hope they are on to something that shakes up Shell Mobil and Exxon et al!!

maybe they'll be hydro powered aero planes one day.

Hmmm... there is no SCORE class for a water or hydrogen powered vehicle. If the story is real, then a special class will be created as it was for the VW turbo-diesels (as no turbos were allowed in SCORE).

Sundog, how about a link to the source of that story?

Yah, there was a rumor of a cold fusion reactor once, too... Well, we can only hope for water power... unless you are a stockholder in Standard Oil or Exxon!

Let's see...
We have a great idea!
Let's take new technology that hasn't even been proven on the street...
And enter it in a race that seasoned veterans and vehicles built like tanks often don't finish.
Have they tested the hydrogen cell by shaking the heck out of it for hours to see if its stable?
I don't want to see photos of some mushroom cloud going off in Baja.

Well to give them the benefit of the doubt, they don't say anything about finishing.

Google "Air Car"... there is a compressed air car that supposedly runs, and runs well. The original one would burn gasoline to run the compressor but the latest I heard is that they replaced the gasoline little engine for a solar/batteries one.

If the above is true..........

With a little more lift and maybe bigger tires it might work in the B1K.
