This one is a jewel but I don't know if it will serve your purpose:

European contact on the region's aboriginal population.
This is from Dawson's Baja Travel Series readily available in libraries but is a little skinny:

have this one yet>

Also, the Lower California Guidebook (1956-1970 editions) or newer Baja California Guidebook (1975, 1980 editions) has brief but important mission
facts from historian Peter Gerhard.

In Zephyrin Engelhardt's book, Section IV covers the Dominican Period in 14 chapters [pages 555-714].
Definitely worthwhile, not so scholarly that it's difficult to read, and often available at libraries.

Choral Pepper had done a lot of exploring and research for her 1973 & 1975 updated 'Baja California' book of missions, historic legends, etc.
In her (yet unpublished) last Baja book, she went into even more detail on the missions. I may end up posting her new book chapters on the mission
here, someday. I have already posted a few chapters in the Nomad Historic Interests and Literature (this) forum... scroll back over the years of posts
here!
