help! Tried uploading 15 KB photo

I've tried to upoad a photo with my message using "Attachment" and "Browse" at the bottom of the page. I realized that the first unsuccessful time that the photo was a bit larger than 50 KB. But the second try the photo was only 15 KB and it still didn't show up in the message.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong??

Thanks,

Michaela

Does it have "jpg" or "jpeg" at the end of the title?

Thanks for sharing your experience - and the kind thoughts behind your words. This is more important than just information. I'm sure that something will show up to make things clear. :D:

At times the site may be overloaded and be unable to accept additional new files. Normally an error will result.

The file must be named correctly such as myfile.jpg no spaces, always use a .jpg

The .jpg file may be saved incorrectly for example with cmyk color which will fail on the web as opposed to rgb. Retry saving the file in multiple formats, rgb .jpg and indexed .gif or .png just to see if it helps.

An image url cannot have an ' in it, like Herman's Book.jpg (take any ' out of the photo file name.

Rather than using an URL, I browsed "My Pictures" from my computer - a photo that I had edited with Picasa.

If you use an URL doesn't this mean that the pictues are from a web page?

Thanks,

Michaela

Michaela,

Yes a url would use the bbcode option for image. bbcode is sort of simple html code for bulleten boards like this. If you click post reply button a larger reply window will appear instead of the quick reply at the bottom of each post, in the advanced reply you will icons for image posting click the image icon to be prompted for the image url.

Or go ahead and click bb code as you see on the left for help about how to use img bbcode

its real simple and lots better than attaching since the site doesn't have to upload and store the image which is less burden to the site host.

Try it, can't wait to see your image...

Yes... but the rule is the same for photos in you pictures folder... no ' in the name... or & as well... just letters, numbers, a dash is okay... but make sure it isn't too long a file name.

Here is a photo of Erle Stanley Gardner at Las Flores, 1966 from my files:

Mkapilla,

If the file size is under 50K and the format is .jpg it's undoubtedly the file name. There should be no spaces in the file name. Change a file called 'file name.jpg' to 'filename.jpg'. DOS is more liberal with file names but most webservers run on unix boxes.

- The server resources are not overloaded.
- It's unlikely a CMYK vs. RGB color issue.
- It could be the filename.
- It could also be that you're using the "preview post" option - in which case you won't be able to preview your attachment, and it would not post after the preview either.

Other than that, I can't say what the issue is for you.

Please double-check the file size again, just in case.

:?:

Thanks,

Doug

If you use Photobucket and resize there , then copy the IMG code from Photobucket and just paste on your reply.

that way the image does not take up nomad file space as it is stored on photobucket. If you ever delete it from photobucket it will not show on the forum either.

Hopefully that was clear as mud
