Mario's (near Estero Beach Resort) Moving

The popular restaurant, Mario's, near the Estero Beach Resort Hotel, closed last week to move to its new location. The new place is expected to open in 2 weeks (we all know what that means) and is "at the Y" of the transpeninsular at the turn-off to La Bufadora. That site formerly housed Las Molcajetes and Bougamvillas restaurants.

That's great news! The old location was closed when we visited last weekend and we were concerned about him.

He's such a great guy. We always made a point to stop in for dinner when in town.

Thanks for the update.

Years ago I dined at Cuevas Las Tigres in South Ensenada and had the Abalone, is that restaraunt still there? Just curious...

Haven't had a bad trip yet....

I think it burned down...under mysterious circumstances.

cueva de los tigres was left like a ghost restaurant--all tables set, dishes, cutlery and wine glasses--for years. i ate there in the 1980s (i think) and had very fond memories of it so was very disappointed when we started coming down regularly in 1999 to find it had been abandoned.

as bb2005 says, it burned to the ground about 4 or so years ago.

one story going around was that the owners were busted for serving fake abalone.:?:

They sell fake abalone. Saw some in Rosarito at Smart and Final.

Only they called it imitation abalone.

Maybe they were busted for selling fake imitation abalone.
