Building In Baja

Hi all,

This is my first posting on BN. I thought this would be a good link (below) for many of you who are either in the process of building a new casa or contemplating it. My wife and I own a lot on the lower east cape and I've been slowly compiling info on building techniques, finishes, solar, septic, etc...The woman who publishes these newsletters is named Wendy Raines, based in Todos Santos. Definately worth a read!

The new picture is of a waterspout in Nicaragua this summer. A fascinating weather event (to see from a distance!).

Saw our first waterspout in Baja during Hurricane Norbert weather this Oct. and captured some brief video, but it doesn't translate well to a still photo.

Gaucho, I totally agree with oladulce. It is a wealth of information; even more amazing; it's extremely factual & accurate. Based on my experiences building here, I only wish Wendy had begun publishing this 10 years ago for my first construction. If you plan your construction using the oft hard fought for information freely given, you'll be way ahead in the long run.

Longlegs,
I corresponded a bit with Wendy via email and she's really generous w/ her time and contacts as well. Maybe, if we're lucky, the price of materials might come down a little bit over the next 12 -18 months. That sure would make it easier for me to get started w/ my project! :D

Just started on my bodega/ two room house in Los Barriles. I wanted to take advantage of the dollar to peso rate and finally get the project under way. My lot is Four Rows back in the only development in the East Cape with the only boat launch ramp between La Paz and SJD.
