Pot Holes south of El Rosario
Hola Nomads-
Just got back from a quick 8 day trip to Bahia Asuncion. We had a great time as always and especially enjoyed meeting the other Nomads in town. This
was our 4 month old's second trip down and he is loving his time there.
Anyways, just wanted to point out that the road south of El Rosario is full of pot holes going in both directions. Be careful on this stretch.
I'll try and post a more detailed trip report on my blog in the coming days.

Zac, we came over that stretch Friday and found some rough spots south of Santa Ynez... but were most impressed with the new wide section of about 12
miles long, about 20-34 miles south of El Rosario... Now even you bike riders have room on Hwy. 1... but please wait until the entire narrow section
is done!
Word is all of narrow Hwy. 1 will have a meter on each side extention! SOME DAY!

Yes David, that section is nice but I noticed a few pot holes there as well.
Crossed at SY on Monday at 5:00pm with an hour wait which seems to be the norm for us.

Try Tecate... same distance from Ensenada, but what a great non-wait we had Saturday afternoon... 5 minutes! They had 4 gates open (the commercial
truck gates was open for everyone).

Tecate is at least 40 minutes out of my way as we live near Balboa Park. Not really worth the extra gas to save a few minutes.

Understand... It is that much longer for me, living in Oceanside, too... You said an hour wait.... I just like driviving 40 minutes extra in the fresh
air than sitting for 40 (or 60) minutes in a line of idling car exhaust.
Going south, always T.J. or Otay south if on the west side.

There was a lot of rain on that stretch about 30-40 miles south of El Rosario the night after David came through, and would be a significant cause of
new potholes. Would've been Saturday night.
The highway from El Rosario to just south of Vizcaino has various rough spots - the rest of Hwy 1, other than some vados, is to my recollection, very
nice. I didn't drive the portion of Hwy 1 between Hwy 19 and San Antonio... FWIW.

Unfortunately, some of the edges of the new wider part south of El Rosario are beginning to break away.
For anyone going to Bahia Asuncion, soon after you pass the Electric Company Station and the Ejido, there are some MAJOR very large potholes. Be
aware and be careful. They can sneak up on you.
For a while, they were filling the potholes on that road on a regular basis, but we heard that there is no money until March.

Thanks for the info, we will heading to Bahia Asuncion on Monday.
What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

I made a round trip from Loreto last week. Wait at Tecate- none, not a car in front of me. Kind of disorientating!
Potholes...well. maybe some rough spots, but no "trout stockable" Montana-type potholes.
Each way, I saw one semi truck and trailer rig lying on its side on the road. Maybe that's how they sleep?
