spyware warning????
I updated by Trend Internet Security and now every time I open Baja Nomad, I get one of the pop-up messages.
It says it is a dangerous site ---category Spyware and gives the address of http://googleads.g.doubleclick
Anyone else get that or know why?

They must be referring to the "OFF TOPIC" venue.
I have pretty sophisticated "security" and I have not gotten anything, Diane.

Ah heck, I know even the general forum can be dangerous territory at times.
Seriously, it is really annoying because every time I open a different thread, it pops up---going to need to get rid of it!

"fixing" it....

I used Trend Micro Security last year. I never received any warnings about Nomads site other than, "keep your mouth shut!"
I had some other problems with Trend Micro so when they wanted $50 to renew, I declined. I am now using Avast Security. It is free and available for
download on their website. I read all the reviews about security software and Avast is highly rated even though it is free for personal use (a fee if
you use it for business with some extra features). User reviews were very enthusiastic. So far I am very happy. Works better than Trend Micro. Now
when I sign into Nomads, I get a message that says, "Go for it, stud!"

Looks like Google - as of December - is feeding some of the text ads above via the doubleclick.net domain name (which they acquired at some point if
the fairly recent past) - and because of earlier policies of the doubleclick.net folks, many spyware providers may still hold them accountable for
those practices.
You could likely set your Trend Micro spyware software to allow doubleclick.net as a "safe" or "allowed" domain name in order to eliminate the
warnings.
That's about the best I can do with this one.
Thanks,
-
Doug

a lot of these products are actually bad guys pretending to help you. They will warn you without cause in order to convince you to buy their products
and "celan" what they did to you. Just stick to the big names like AdwareAlert.

It did say
something about if I ever ventured into off-topic again, they would cancel me!
That is interesting about the free site. I will check it out. On my laptop I have Norton and it is such a memory pig.

I was going to install AVG until I read the user reviews. A majority of users were unhappy with it. I don't know since I didn't use it. Avast
updates 3 or 4 times a day.

Of course, running Linux would be cheaper, faster, more secure and have fewer hassles, but hey....
....sorry, I couldn't resist.

That is too funny. Loading and running a background anti-spyware program endorsed by someone in the US State Department under the Bush
administration is like... (insert your own oxymarooon analogy here...)
No weapon against any country would be as effective as the hacking into and hijacking of EVERY computer and computer based system. Totally crippling
(power, water, communications, defense, police, fire, banking).
I'm way off topic and sending myself back to Off Topic. Sorry. The thread was pretty much frayed already though- in my defense.
