stunning photos as always Ken! So sweet to see the little one nursing. One of those faces only a mother could love!
Every year we get a few elephant seals on our beach beside our house...I always think they are dead or dying and feel sad...but it seems they just
need to rest or recuperate from a wound...after a day or two on the beach, they just slip back into the sea and swim away!

Ken,
Funny you should post these. We were up there on vacation over New Years and saw them also. Very funny noises those seals make. The size of the
males are amazing!
Thanks for posting.

Ken don't tell me you were actually on the beach up there.
I am surprized that the Elephant Seal N-zi's did not have you arrested for molesting them.
Must have been mid week.
Really is a site to see. The full grown males are gigantic.

Hah! I would say these guys have definitely rebounded nicely.
Here at Ano Nuevo we have great whites patrolling just offshore looking for a meal. Sometimes it's an elephant seal, sometimes it's a surfboard.

No, I think the docents shoot you if you go down on the beach at the viewing areas. The big solitary bull was on the beach, all by himself, near the
pier at W.R. Hearst State Park. He let us get close, but after about 15 minutes he tired of us and ambled back in the ocean.

Fantastic!
Once again, I'm sorry we missed out on our lunch date. We probably would have tagged along to San Simeon as well. The weather has been beautiful for
it lately. Thanks for sharing your photos.

You got it Paulina. The weather was gorgeous both days we were there. You guys should really take a run up there, everyone was saying that there are
more seals on the beach than they have ever seen. Lots of pups right now, it is really a fantastic sight. Saludos,

Wonderful photos, Ken! I especially like that third one. Quite a character look to that seal - like he's just sidled up to the bar and is ordering
up drinks for the house.

Crusoe - they aren't feeding (except for the pups of course). The pups are born in January and February and they nurse for two months, during which
they increase in weight from about 60 to 300 lb. The females then go into estrus and mate, then leave to feed in the deep ocean. The adults don't
eat at all while they are on the beach. The pups remain on the beach for two months without food, teaching themselves how to swim. Then in March the
new pups leave to feed in the deep ocean.
