Dia de las Madres Party in Asuncion

the traditional big party for all the moms got cancelled due to an order from the Health Dept. for the flu fear so we executed Plan B and started the party at our place in the early afternoon with family and friends.
the men did all the cooking while the moms drank...we decided on the damiana/tequila c-cktail and LOVED it!...sure got us in the spirit quickly.

The pulpo en la disca was delicioso and coctel de chocolatas was lovely. Then Juan's uncle showed up to kidnap us all to liven up his party.

So off we went, instruments and tequila in hand to the next gig. This was a special event because doņa Maria who is 91 was present so there were 4 generations of mamas there. She is an amazing woman...cheerful and totally lucid and with it....she even downed a shot of tequila and danced a bit in her walker!
Here is juan and javier playing her Las Maņanitas...she shed tears of joy which made all of us cry too.

Juan and his tio Javier played music for 8 hours much to our delight and we danced our faces off. Mr.Gyspy proved to be an exceptional caballito dancer!

I always thought I was a bit of a party animal, but Juan's sisters outdo me by far.

Here is a link to a little slide show of the family party.

Great post. But who's the jefe that would have had the power to cancel the original bash? Seems a little like overkill right about now.

I heard that an order came from the Health Board forbidding gatherings in closed public areas like salons...but church was packed! they cancelled an outdoor dance too the rascals. Sirena mentioned that her classes have been cancelled again too....geez.

And in the last few days, the flu thing has practically disappeared from the news. Oh well. Shari. Not looking for and address, obviously. But in what part of town is Sirena staying? Only ask because we're seriously looking this summer for a rental in the Ensenada area.

I can't help but think about all the stories Dona Maria could tell. It would be amazing.

Thank you for sharing.

I love the mostly empty bottle of tequila being swung by the local lady. If she had a great time...so did everyone else!:bounce:

I'm jealous:bounce:
I spent the day delivering an electric wheel chair for my ninety-year-old mom.

this is what I want to be doing on Mothers Day when I'm 90!

Doņa Maria even got up and danced to La bamba in her walker...I have a little video of that too. It was so neat to have all the generations represented and the live music was a treat.

Some of you may recognize Tita, Juan's sister...the one with the tequila bottle...from San Hipolito...if you ever go through there, make sure you stop and let her feed you..they live right beside the coop panga haul out area.

I look forward to the day when more NOmad Moms are here to celebrate with us. Mr.Gyspy's dancing skills were a real hit with the ladies...they are suckers for blue eyes! and Ms.Gypsy kept right up with Juan's sisters!

Shari I saw the YouTube video and loved it. God I wish I could have been there to add my voice to the music. I send a HUGE belated Feliz Dia de Madre to Doņa Maria who looks so beautiful at 91. May she have many more Mothers Days with you guys. Oh and may all you Asuncion Moms have a happy belated Mothers Day too. You party animals.
