Motels de Paso

On the outskirts of most Mexican cities you will encounter the motels de paso. They are mostly new and large and very upscale in appearance. They are also obvious when you note the private aspect of the entry. You can't see beyond the entry. They are all heavily secured and walled. Upon inquiry to the rates at the driveup office, you notice a 4 hour rate, a 12 hour rate etc. When you check in, you drive into a garage that either has a curtain or a garage door. All transactions in cash. The rooms are oversized and feature beautiful furnishings...sometimes large mirrors, but always very, very clean and upscale. Guess what...they are an integral part of Mexican culture. A place to take the mistress. For travelers, I have found them to be the best value around. No need to worry about your vehicle. Oh and by the way....free condoms and porno channels. We have now been converted to using these motels as we travel. La Paz, Mainland, anywhere in Mexico...simply the best value out there. Just make sure to negotiate the rate for your time requirement. In Oaxaca, we checked in at 5pm and sure enough they called at 5 AM and told us it was time to leave. Nomads, your experiences and feed back please.

In English, "Motel de Paso" translates as "No Tell Motel".
