Bob, why not mini-splits? much quieter and easier to install.

Those were my thoughts exactly. However, I don't believe they come in 110V. Most likely reason you got them for that price is that the wall units are
becoming obsolete, with the splits taking over.
Also found the splits quite a bit more efficient.
Replaced all my wall units with splits a few years ago and really makes a difference.
Also, hope for lots of sun, so you can keep the power going to drive those babies.
And,of course, keep the place full, so you recoup some of your mullah.

you are BOTH correct...
they are 115v units that draw 11 amps each
later they can be used with the solar system and generator
if necessary
the reason is the total electrical usage when combined with an inverter...
a stacked 3500w outback inverter will support 66 amps
33 amps per inverter
i need 55 amps to run the units
replacement cost of the units for later is still a factor
$315usa each versus $3000 usa
it was a no brainer for me and our lifestyle living "off the grid"
home depot in ensenada sold 1/2 their stock in a week
i think window air conditioners will be around along time
those 5000 btu units sell for under $100 and use 6amps
things are just getting better and CHEAPER!!!

Bob when you can, check out the 24 v. and 48 v. heat pumps made in Israel designed for off grid locales and green LEED building.
still pricey, lots in Cabo and Los Cabos where i saw them 2007.
how is Mace doing? i'd like to be in one of his projects, he does nice work.
