Two enormous FONATUR projects in Loreto were DENIED by SEMARNAT
Two large projects, Puerto Escondido and Riviera Loreto (Ligui) were recently denied permits by SEMARNAT based on two public hearings that were held
at La Mision Hotel in March.
Eco Alianza de Loreto, A.C. was a key player in the process of public hearings. By law if solicited, a project must present to the citizens its plans
and it must make public their MIA (EIR). The public sentiments were overwhelmingly negative towards these two projects. Poorly planned and presented
by fonatour the scientists and concerned citizens of this community and surrounding communities presented impressive and superior arguments against
these two projects. The Puerto Escondido project alone required $1.6 BILLION dollars in investment of which approximately 2/3's was going to be
private investment. According to sources a portion of the money that was destined to the PE project it has been rerouted to the Salinita project, the
malecon South of colonia Zaragoza. This malecon project is in violation of the environmental laws especially where it encroaches on the federal zone.
At this point the work has been slowed down due to some legal issues.
Thirty or so years ago when fonatur descended on Loreto they met no resistance. Even ten years ago little could be done about their actions, but in
recent years and as more people have settled here with them came their backgrounds and experience in development and in environmental awareness. Now
there are people who are holding fonatur's feet to the fire, holding them accountable. Projects need to present a well thought out MIA and plan as
there are many people here now who can read through the BS, spot inconsistencies and errors. Development is fine as long as it is done responsibly
and in consideration of this areas limited resources.

Does this mean all new construction work will come to a grinding halt in Ligui? What do you think this exactly means? ++C++

I believe the two projects Pam was referring to is the development at Puerto Escondido and at Rattlesnake Beach. Pam, is that correct? The Villa
Group project at Ensenada Blanca (Ligui) has received its permits and is moving ahead.

What's up with the recent work and on-going project at Puerto Escondido? For many years now I would spend a night, while traveling South, camping on
the empty streets near the water. Last time thru, the streets were being dug-up and power and water systems upgraded. The marina facilities are the
best in that area and there is hardly anyone there, ever.

they are building a landing strip for the NASA space shuttle or at least its starting to look that way.

Rattlesnake Beach
I have been to Ligui several times, but i am not sure which beach is called Rattlesnake. Is it the one between Ensenada Blanca and the beach directly
out from Ligui, or the one directly out from Ligui, or another? Thanks.

Just south of Puerto Escondido, around the point, there is a south east facing beach that has been a popular place for" free campers" and drifters
for 30 plus years I am aware of. There is good access to Carmen Is. and Danzante from there also.It is accessed by an old road just west of Trupui. It
was always refferred to by the people living there as Rattle Snake Beach. It is one of the nicer beaches in the entire Loreto area. I do not believe
the area is ever referred to Ligui. Ligui is 3 to 4 miles south. The first sentence in Pams post on this thread refers to " Riviera Loreto (Ligui)" is
a bit confusing. However she may have more local knowledge about other beaches in the area also designated as Rattle Snake!! ++C++

I believe (but will find out for sure) that Riviera was going to extend from south of Pto Escondido to Ligui. The Pto Escondido project was also
going to include Tabor Canyon which would have likely closed access to that excellent hike forever, and a portion of Juncalito.
