Drowning victim at Los Cerritos on Sunday

This 30 year old Texas man drowned at Los Cerritos beach near Todos Santos on Sunday...his wife survived but received medical treatment. My
condolences to the family and friends.
The sea is a powerful force...please be careful in the waves nomad amigos. Cerritos could use a lifeguard.

Actually he drowned on the 22nd when he tried to save his wife who was being carried out by the current near the rocks on the north side of the beach.
Hooray for the surfers who were able to save her, do CPR and get an ambulance out to take her to the hospital in La Paz.
Unfortunately, the husband was swept under and apparently was stuck in the rocks all this time. We here at the Hacienda spent every day with
binoculars trying to locate him, but to no avail. The wife, from South Africa, along with her mother came to the Hacienda on Friday to take a look as
well. She asked if we could send divers out to search for him, but if you know about this area, you will understand why that is an impossibility.
I am relieved that his body was finally recovered so she can at least have this closure. Our sympathies are with her and her family.
We sincerely agree that lifeguards are needed here.

Aww.., this is so sad. Thanks to you and all others who care and helped «hugs». I, too, am glad the body was found. I'll pray to God and ask Him to
console those who loved him. :`(

Cerritos beach can be so dangerous...partly because it IS possible to swim there but the currents are bad. So this happened before the big swell hit?
which is perhaps why they were swimming in the first place...so very sad...but hopefully something good may come of it to save lives in the
future...like maybe posting lifeguards to warn innocent folks of the dangers. If a lifeguard tried to save the man's wife...he would still be with us.

I was there all day that day, on vacation. The surf was up that day, about 5 to 7 foot. That beach is dangerous, period. Unfortunately we had left
around 330 and i guess it happened in the evening.

I think that if there is surfing a good rule of thumb is no swimming.
The Los Cabos gov't has issued a high tide warning for all the beaches here until Wed.

It is important to know that at Los Cerritos beach there is a rip current at the north end by the point. If you are caught in the rip it will be
impossible to swim towards the beach, however if you just relax and go with the rip it will take you in a big circle south and deposit you back on the
beach. If caught in a rip current it is important to not panic. Beach knowledge can do a lot to reduce these tragedies. Before going into the water at
an unfamiliar beach take a few minutes to watch for currents and other potential dangers and maybe ask a local about safety issues.
