EL CAMINO REAL on AAA Map
Many of you have seen my posts on the mission road through Old California (ie. Baja) from Loreto north towards Alta California or New California).
I have shown you photos of the Camino Real as seen from space along with the route penned onto the Baja Almanac topo maps for most detail.
I have transfered the Jesuit Camino Real route onto the map most of us use for our road trips, the Auto Club of Southern California Baja map of 2007.
The major routes are shown, there are others...
In the south, in the Comondu area, the pre-1737 route via San Miguel Comondu to Comondu Viejo (near Rancho San Juan) is included... as well as the
Mulege route between La Purisima and San Ignacio.
North of San Ignacio and north of Santa Gertrudis are two routes serving various visitas or seasonal needs. There is a third route south of Santa
Gertrudis that goes further east, but it was not possible to trace from space fully as the others shown were.
North from San Borja, there is very little Jesuit road construction visible from space... only a small section north of the L.A. Bay highway. The rest
of the route to Mision Santa Maria is more of a animal track than a road... Much of the track can be seen near Coco's Corner and Las Arrastras, just
west of the auto. road.
The Jesuits were expelled from California before any serious road construction could be done in this northern section.
The maps are shown for educational purposes only...
From Loreto to San Ignacio:
On to San Borja:
On to Calamajue and Santa Maria:

Thanks for posting this. I always enjoy your maps of El Camino Real, and the "Old Road".

Sure Neal... would love to do that. Of course you know my maps don't leave my side, so does that mean I move in?
Oh wait, that may put Baja Angel in direct contact from the WiW collecting sultan!

De nada... the Baja Almanac maps I original traced the ECR route onto are modern too, just a lot more detail than the AAA map... which makes it harder
for some to use for overall travel use.

Just tell me how...
If you saw my Google earth page, it would scare you with all the yellow push pin markers along the Camino Real I have!

Since the AAA Baja maps are a thing of history, here's another look at one with the oldest roads in California to 1768 shown on it.
