fast LA bay trip
Fast but fun trip to LA bay. Left Sunland ca. at 4 AM sunday morning Got to LA bay 4 PM. Got a air conditioned room at Costa Del Sol for 50.00 dolars
a night (thanks to the recomendations from fellow nomads on the forum it is the best in town) We set up a panga with Arturo from Ricardos for the next
day. Had dinner and drinks at Costa Del Sol.
Monday On the boat At 5 am Caught 6 yellows numerous Bonita and Cabrilla. Saw whales,dolphines and manta rays. Great fishing day. Back at the dock 1
pm. Had some Lunch back at the hotel and gave them some of the fish to prepare for dinner. We then drove north of La Gringa on a 4x4 road to a nice
cove for some snorkeling. Got back to the hotel at 8 pm for some excelent dinner from the fish we caught.
Tuesday Had breakfast and on the road to San Felipe at 9 am. Got to Gonzaga bay at 12 pm. Bought some food and drink from the newly remodeled store
Rancho Grande (very nice set up) stopped at several spots along the way to do some shore fishing. no luck though.
Well the paved road to Gonzaga is comming. I was down there a year ago and construction is now down to Volcan Prieto from Puertecitos. they are not
just paving the original road but cutting grading new sections and building bridges. For me this is sad news. Getting to Gonzaga Bay was like what HWY
1 used to be like years ago. It made it more of an adventuer
We arrived San Felipe at 4 pm. Got a room at the El Capitan for 45.00 dollars went for a swim in the pool to cool off. We had an excellent dinner of
steamed clams and grilled shimp with garlic. The town was dead. It seemed like we were the only tourist there. all the night clubs were closed.
Wednesday had breakfast and on the road at 9 am. Hit the border crossing in Mexicali 1 hr wait and back in Sunland at 4 pm. like I said it was fast
but fun. beats working

What a great trip. It's those last minute, fast trips that do wonders for recharging the batteries!

Two summers ago there was a dead Sperm whale washed up near Smith. It was pretty cool, and darned if the "island people" didn't get to the teeth
first.
This past summer we went to check it out again and only found one large and very heavy bone on the shore. I would have loved to have the skull to make
a chair ala Pancho style.
I would really like to see one alive.
